Hmmm. More cute, blonde, females sign another deal. I'm no Oliver Wendell Holmes, but I'm starting to see a pattern here.

Now that so-called student-athletes can make a bundle there should be no more free rides for 'em. Yank all athletic 'ships and tell 'em to go out and do something for themselves, which for most, would be something totally new.

    Re: NIL question

I disagree. First, the schools still cannot pay student-athletes directly. They can only make money indirectly, and not to play their particular sport. As we all know, most of these kids are going to receive much (if any) monetary compensation. I think most will receive in-kind payment (free cell services, meals, clothing, etc.). Only a select few will be able to make enough to live on.

I can assure you that this will be nothing more than another way that the haves separate themselves even more from the have nots. There will be an all out “indirect” bidding war for their services. A 5star QB can make a lot of scratch from a boosters business for advertising. Everyone knows that it’s always taken place, but it’s about to go to an all new level.

...except of course, for those who are female, blonde, hot and play a sport. Right?

I hadn’t thought about it until now, but this is the way for Oregon to pay it’s players through Nike endorsements. Similar for other schools with billionaire donors and alum. This will even make it harder for a bunch of P5’s to compete with their own conference mates. Of course, I still don’t think it’s going to involve a huge amount of players.

It’s going to separate the big money schools from the smaller market P5’s even more so than it is now. It will have very little effect on schools like us.

Might make games against Miss State, Ole Miss, or South Carolina more fun for us.

I think it’s impossible to know how this will play out. I do firmly believe that it’s going to narrow the list of schools that have any real shot at a NC even more.
