Hhhmmm....
Well some people wanted him gone anyway.
I don't know, so I am asking...was Silva a victim of LB's interference/control of the staff rather than allowing him to truly manage the pitchers? Kind of like Skippy's meddling in the play calling.
The team ERA over the last two months of the season was nothing to write home about. The bullpen regressed into a range from barely serviceable at times to being totally ineffective too much of the time.
This replacement hire is very important to keep the trajectory of this program moving in the right direction. If the problem really is Burroughs, that will be determined during the tenure of the new pitching coach.
Our HC fired the best pitching coach in C-USA. That’s not even up for debate
Overall our pitching staff didn’t get better as a group. Yes, we had a couple of guys materialize as pretty good, but all in all that wasn’t enough. I wasn’t a fan of the pitching arm sleeve thing either. I thought it took away from the pitchers’ focus. Instead of focusing on the batter and plate we were reading codes. What we need since we’re likely not to get a truck load of mid 90s guys is a coach who can develop players and help them find their specialized niche.
The analytics in sports has gotten ridiculous. Some things are good, like shifts. Overthinking the pitching gets you in trouble. Perfect time to employee the KISS method. If a guy can’t hit high heat, but can’t lay off of it, then stay up there. Some thing with any other batter. Throw it where they can’t hit it or can’t hit it hard.
Anyone hearing anything on a replacement?
Players liked him but they usually do. His lack of results over the last 6 weeks don’t suggest he was even good.
I sure hope we do something different than make the easiest hire possible by way of promoting some state school guy like we almost always do. Just like everything else in our restart program it’s time for Tech to think and act bigger.
