Almost all of the options mentioned were better than Guardians. I'd have much preferred Spiders, with Rockers as my second choice.

    LOL.

It would be worth watching Cleveland games on tv just to hear the announcers tackle that.

I watched the Cubs-Ind...er, soon-to-be Guardians WS, but that's the last MLB I have really watched. Channel surfing and pausing to watch a ball hit toward the outfield to see if it's going out, does not count. I see where the Milwaukee Bucks won the NBA title...caught a news story about it. I remember the old Lew Alcinder, Bobby Dandridge, and Oscar "the Big O" Roberston Bucks teams. I haven't followed the NBA since Karl Malone retired.

I don't miss either one and I suspect the NFL will soon follow.

The Guardians? That's worse than horrible. It's boring! How can you build a team's ad campaign around a name like that? I can think of a thousand names better than Guardians.

    How 'bout.......

    The Cleveland Crawfish
    The Cleveland Cougars
The Cleveland Bats (I like this one)

There's Bearcats, Captains, Coyotes (my other favorite), Mudcats and many more, that are better than Guardians. I even like someone's suggestion above, the "Rockers", since the city is the home of the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame. It sounds like the Cleveland management team was pissed off for having to do this at all, so they put zero time and effort into thinking of a better name.

Would like to know how the fan votes look?
    What? They didn’t vote?
I think “Lakers” would really be appropriate for Clev. Maybe even, frozen lakers?
This word science gives me a headache

BTW, the term "buck" was used by slaveholders to refer to a male who could make lots of babies and who was a big, strong fellow thus creating strong new slaves. In horse breeding the term is "stud." Now, I know the NBA team says it is merely a reference to a male deer. But, in the world of PC it doesn't matter what you THINK it refers to, it's what the PC gestapo says it means. For instance there is a high school in Utah, I think it is, that changed its name from Cougars since that term also refers to older female sexual predators. So...the Milwaukee NBA team needs to change its name too. Can't have this slavery reference continuing.

Another BTW, LSU's mascot of "Tigers" is not a reference to some large cat that is not indigenous to Louisiana, but was (and thus is) meant to honor the Louisiana Confederate troops who served in Virginia and collectively became known as "Louisiana Tigers." The original name came from Wheat's 1st Special Battalion which included a company of professional mercenaries called "the Tiger Rifles," which had fought in many wars around the world. Wheat's Battalion became known as "Wheat's Tigers" and it was they who saved the day for the South at the Battle of First Manassas. Eventually 12,000 Louisiana soldiers would serve in the Confederate army in Virginia, and all were referred to as "Tigers" because of the reputation of Wheat's unit. LSU adopted the mascot of "Fightin' Tigers" to honor those soldiers.

I have a suggestion for LSU's new mascot: the Nutria Rats

How about this. Somebody didn't do their homework. Bet this men's roller derby team will skyrocket in popularity if they tell the Indians that they can't steal their name.

All they had to do was check ClevelandGuardians.com and they didn’t do it (msn.com)

The roller derby team never filed trademark / that's on them. They will get paid (won't be stolen).
