The biggest issue with prevent in that situation is the offense can easily make a 10+ yard play and either go down or run out of bounds, and the clock will stop. If we get just one stop where the clock doesn’t stop, it’s game over. Instead, our defensive strategy was to back up to our endzone, put up as little resistance as possible and hope they make a mistake. That is Skip’s defensive strategy, hope the other guy loses.

Exactly! He was hoping for a dropped pass, fumble, or for the QB to slide short of the first down. Mistakes a decent team with a reasonable 2 minute plan doesn’t make.

Don't know what it's called in the Tech playbook. But it is accurately described as "cover zilch". We play it enough that we have gotten very good at allowing opponents to score quickly when we run it.

It’s called the stat padder plus.

-need a game winning drive on your draft resume
-need a long run to set/break a record
-need to look like a genius on your sideline

Louisiana Tech University has you covered.

Friscodawg, need to update your stats. Holtz unbeaten streak remains 100% in tact. He has yet to beat a P5 team since his time here at Tech in regular season.

I noticed Teddy and Malcom were fed some Skip propaganda to be stated over and over last night...

This would be Tech's first win over a ranked team since beating Navy.

We've been through this, but Navy was ranked in the final CFP poll then lost two times after that final ranking and prior to our game. Using the Navy ranked argument, they were still ranked after we beat them.

Navy was not ranked in the AP or Coaches poll like all other ranked teams we've lost to or won against.

Didn’t they also start their 3rd string QB against us?

I think it was 2nd. Then he got hurt and the 3rd came in and score their last TD.

The top post has nothing to do with P5 game records. Notice that one of the most memorable Skippy Specials was against "Your Demons".

Start a different thread to discuss not winning P5 games.

And Navy game discussion has no place in this thread either since it wasn't a Skippy Special. Tech was never behind in the 4th quarter of that win.

Part of the Skip propaganda and treated as a historic win, which it was not. See your post above.

Re: Skip Holtz Specials at Tech, A History of Tech 4th Quarter Comebacks and Collapse

Seems obvious to me that Skip's problem is that he is mentally overloaded in the fourth quarter as play caller and head coach. At the beginning of the game there aren't a lot of head coaching decisions to make and the plays are scripted ahead of time. As you get into the fourth quarter you need to constantly adjust to score and time. That is too much for anyone to do while also worrying about calling plays. That causes bad decisions and also freezing up like he did against NC State ,instead of calling the obvious time out. If he wants to keep calling plays I would suggest he call them in the first half and then turn it over to someone else in the second half and focus on end of game strategy. The fourth is the only quarter he is consistently losing.
