Mickey Slaughter was probably the best. He was Maxie Lambright's OC during LA Tech's hey day of the early to mid 1970's when the Dogs won 3 NC's. As this article states, Coach Slaughter was ahead of his time.

He (Slaughter) coached the Bulldogs’ offense from 1967 until 1978 mentoring Terry Bradshaw, Roger Carr, Tilley and Mike Barber, among others, into NFL standouts.

Other than an offensive line coach, Slaughter was the main man, the only man, running the Tech offense in the early 1970s, according to (Denny) Duron.

“When I was there, coach Slaughter not only called the plays, he sometimes called the throws because he understood where to attack and how to attack,” Duron said. “As a quarterback in his system, he didn’t think for you, but he allowed you to think with him.”

I went to church with Coach Mick for 15 years. He was my Sunday School teacher. He never once brought up his playing or coaching days. Extremely humble man.

A few years ago Coach Mick used to hang out here on BB&B quite a bit. But that's been a few years ago now.

Mickey Slaughter was the one who established Tech's reputation as that of a passing offense.

Right. All the good from last Saturday was someone else and all the bad was Skip.

If we can average 28 against SEC teams, I’d call that adequate offensive production.

I may have heard him wrong, but in an interview Holtz gave prior to the MS State game, he said that HE was going to be calling the plays. I took that to mean the entire game. IF that's in fact the case, why do we have an OC? Why are we paying someone to be the OC? He also said he was going to be making the special team calls. Sky kick anyone??? I just don't get it. If what I heard is what he said...and I think my hearing is okay (well, my wife might argue with that statement).

Who has some information on Southeastern? I feel like if we can score like we did (in 2 Quarters) against an SEC team, we should be able to handle and FCS one. However, they are in the top 20 in FCS (#13?) and have a good number of Tech guys leading them. I hope this isn't another embarrassing loss to an FCS team (thinking NW State). I have no way to judge how good they are - beating North Alabama doesn't give one much to go off of.... I guess if Skip decides not to take the foot off the gas, we will be okay. Our defense is probably the key on this one, anyway.

Tech’s team of players are probably about 17 points better than Southeastern’s. That said, Holtz is about a 10 point handicap. 1 extra turnover against Tech could decide it. Holtz will lose the 4th quarter doing what he always does. It’ll just come down to how big a lead Tech has. If it’s not 17+ points things will get dicey.

Haven't seen them play, but last week looking at the stats their offensive attack is very balanced. Their qb (Cole Kelley) is an Arkansas transfer, who prepped at Teurlings Catholic. He can run or throw. He is a senior who is 6'7" and weighs 260. He is the reigning Harlan Hill Trophy winner, think Heisman for the FCS. I saw a line at Cbssports that had us a 12.5 point favorite.

Our roster should be superior and we should have more depth. This game should look very slow to all of our transfers from bigger/better programs. Not repeat of last week please.

Not a lot I know, I just looke
d at the stat sheet from last week.

Last Saturday Skip’s good was like that of an above average lumberjack during the planning and sawing phases of felling a large tree, however in the end it came crashing down on him.

Skip has never once defeated an SEC team. That’s where we live. We’ve had the teams to do it during his era, but he always forgets which way the tree is falling.
