....especially after the QB experiences LA Tech has had over the past 2 seasons, or even longer? It's not like we lit it up or anything. According to this chart, LA Tech's 2021 season passing efficiency rating didn't even make the Top 110 list of FBS schools for 2021. There's only 130 schools in all of FBS.

Well, the Tiger fans are saying he is a great recruiter and will help lock down the state for LSU. He may be very good at convincing someone to come to a certain school, but talent evaluation at the Qb position under Holtz and company has been questionable.

The hire of Joe Sloan is a MAJOR REACH by new LSU Coach Brian Kelly. Kelly has spent his entire 38-yr coaching career in the Great Lakes region of the country; first at Grand Valley St, then Central Michigan, later Cincinnati and of course Notre Dame. Kelly has never coached in the deep south, and I'm sure he knows absolutely nothing about the state of Louisiana. This is a desperate attempt by Kelly to get some "roots" established in Louisiana, and since Sloan was available, it makes sense.....for a desperate man who has no idea where C.E. Byrd High School is.

I seem to remember a Byrd HS kid playing at Notre Dame. Maybe it was before Brian Kelly got there...But if it was Kelly, then surely he knows where C.E. Byrd High School is.

However, I agree with HD's bigger point. Kelly better have staffers who have recruited Louisiana, Texas, and the South before.

Of course it is. He was the greatest HS football player I've ever seen in person. How many times have you seen the starting QB return punts, kickoffs and play DB. He is an all around great athlete and spent 8 years in the league @ WR.

I still think Troy Edwards was better at the prep and college level -

Too bad he couldn't keep his head on straight

I don't remember watching Troy (we are same age)

    Byrd vs. Huntington: 1992 W, 17-7; 1993 W, 11-8; 1994 L, 46-41; 1995 W, 30-21

Crazy stat about Arnaz Battle, enter this season, he was still Byrd's #4 All-Time Passing Yards leader @ #4 All-Time Rushing Leader (23 years later) and career scoring leader.

Troy Edwards played a different game than most of those trying to defend him. There are highlight videos on YouTube of him and the 1997-98 seasons. Amazing!

Battle was 3 years behind me at Byrd. Even as a freshman he was something to see. All around great football player.

Easily one of my favorite HS players of all time, but I am biased as a fellow Yellowjacket alum.

Struggled at ND finding a spot (but understandable because ND was terrible while he was there. Some rough years for the Irish.) but still made the NFL I think as a WR for awhile.

I am biased as well . He won the starting QB job at ND, but broke his wrist against Nebraska and never played QB again.

    Don't forget intramurals (supposedly).

Although I didn't see him play at the high school or intramural level.
