Bulldogs Fall in Heartbreaker to Mustangs - latechsports.com

A new article has been posted on www.latechsports.com:

Another Louisiana Tech football game, another nail-biting ending. And Saturday's contest ended in more heartbreak for the Bulldogs as SMU scored the game-winning touchdown on a hail mary pass with no time on the clock to take it 39-37 inside Joe Aillet Stadium.

We need to change it from “weekly presser” to “weekly depresser”

A truer headline would be “Holtz Falls in Heartbreaker...” If his name was front and center, the ownership of these failing losses would be where it belongs and maybe then he’d change his ways. As it is it sounds like the team lost this game, when in reality, the team didn’t lose the game. As per usual, in the end, it’s was Holtz’s strategy that failed to win.

This is the worst part for me:

“This was a game we probably didn’t deserve to win. We got out played and out coached,” Dykes said.

    Hard to swallow.

He said that just to rub it in. He knew Holtz would have a mental break down. He’d seen it in all the film he’s watched. They could play this game next weekend and the outcome would the same although by different means.

Ha. That would have been pretty funny if Dykes said, “I knew we had this the whole time. We just wanted Holtz to feel like he was doing well so we toyed with his players until the time came for the play we’ve been saving for the right time… our trusted Hail Mary with no time left. We knew he couldn’t stop that.”

Holtz is now the 3rd longest HC of Louisiana Tech football. Only Lambright and Aillet coached longer than Holtz.

    Eight years.

No conference championships in eight years.

All many of us are asking for is a conference championship. Not a bowl game. Just a conference championship.

Dykes outcoached Holtz on the last drive including the designed tip play. That play has to be coached, it didn't just happen.

Tech had five defenders around where the ball was coming down and nobody on the periphery on uncovered receivers including the one who caught the redirected ball.

That play needs to be worked on with both sides of the ball every week in practice to be able to pull it off and defend it.

Joe Aillet won 9 conference championships in 27 years. That's a .3333 title winning percentage, or 1 title every 3 years.
Maxie Lambright won 7 conference titles in 12 years. That's a .5833 title winning percentage, or more than 1 title every 2 years.
Skip Holtz has no conference championships in 8 years.

Football is blocking and tackling. In the SMU game the Dawgs did a piss poor job of tackling!!!

It seemed to me, that every time we got a good lead, the Dawgs slowed down and ran out of gas until they were behind again!!
