We outscored SMU in the 4th quarter.
Have you considered those Dogs?
I don't think anyone is smacking Holtz for the offense this year. I think most of us have been happy with it for the most part. I know I have. Of course this begs the question, when he gets a good QB he isn't bad but when he has to recruit more than a transfer or develop one WTF is wrong/happens???
Also the defense is the issue, especially the defense he turtles into at the end of games. It costs him way more than it gains him. If we are pressuring the QB and playing aggressive on D, and he makes the right reads and beats us, that is the other team being better/beating us straight up. But playing this prevent or whatever he wants to call it is beating ourselves and that's a big problem. The fact that they moved relatively untouched that far that fast to even be in legitimate Hail Mary range is the problem.
The defense on the Hail Mary was actually a good call. He rushed 5 with Grubbs coming from the outside to prevent the quarterback from rolling left. Unfortunately their left tackle, tackled Grubbs and the official just let it go figuring it wouldn't matter and then it did.
You’re right we didn’t, until we got to the 30 yard line with about a minute left. Then we did.
With a 17 point lead and 12 minutes to go we had 2nd and short, I think it was 4-5 yards to go from about the MSU 12.
We threw 2 straight low % fades to the left side, both incomplete, and ending up kicking a FG. If we were going to throw in that situation, it needed to be high %, otherwise run twice and kill another minute and a half.
Holtz has a very poor grasp of the game situation too often.
SMU really milking it.
I'm going to make the 7-hour drive this weekend to make the UNT game. I'm a season ticket holder and this will be the first game that I could make. Regardless of how much money I throw at this program and the outcome, Skippy will not ruin my weekend! See y'all there...go Dawgs!
Concerning the threat title…….. Seems to me losing a heart breaker would mean you were a hopeless underdog. For example against Alabama or Clemson. You lead by 6 with a minute thirty to go and you lose. That is heart breaking. Losing a game you honestly had no business losing is just gut wrenching. I think Sonny was right for 58 minutes we were the better team and SMU was outcoached. I’m not heartbroken about any of it anymore. I’m disgusted
Williams was actually coached to fall down after he got the first down and before he scored the called-back TD that would have only forced OT at 41-41. If he had fallen down, the play clock would have been set to 25 seconds and Tech could have burned off up to 24 of the 36 seconds off the game clock that SMU had left after the FG. Because the play ended in a score that was called back, the clock didn't restart until the next snap.
The only way SMU could win was to get the ball back. Scoring a TD up by only 1 does not win the game. And even if Tech had led by 2 or more and scored a TD, just remember the 2017 Southern Miss nightmare for a blown 2-score lead in the last two minutes.
