Very plausible and very possible, especially if we had played them the week after their MS State game (NC State lost 24-10). I think it would have absolutely happened that way - we'd crush the first half, we'd hold steady but not do anything real the third quarter, then Skip would go prevent defense and prevent offense in the 4th and prevent us from winning.
With NC State riding high from beating Clemson, while we "could" get out to an early lead, more likely, NC State scores early and often with a 20+ point lead by half time, 30+ at the end of the third, then their 3rd and 4th string play the last of 4th and let us score a garbage TD within the last 3 minutes and NC State wins by 24 so it looks much closer that it really was.
It's amazing to see a team kick it up a notch after a big win. Skip had two opportunities to do that this season, but prevent defense'ed us to two losses.
Do we have the over/under yet on how often Skippy will say that he is proud that "we competed"?

My new favorite team is at McNeese. Kelley could probably throw for 600 this weekend.

Why does SE Louisiana play McNeese, NSU and Nicholls St TWICE this year? That's very weird.
