That's not true, CUSA and the MAC are the ones fighting over which one is the ugliest!
At best it’s a 3 way tie or it’s MAC at the bottom. Is the MAC good at anything? App State, until this year, was solid in football. ULL had a year of “success”. The edge in basketball and baseball goes to CUSA for a few years running. Just by the eye test, ULL looks like my 1A high school right now on the gridiron. If ULL is the top of your conference, it ain’t a great conference. But CUSA is not great as a conference and is at least a rung above overall.
Yes, long-term stability and a distinct geographic identity. (Also weeknight college football.)
I don’t know that I want that kind of stability. We want to be wanted, not forgotten.
The MAC is the homey girl who has enough sense not to go out into public too much. CUSA is the "plain Jane" who likes to draw attention to herself, "look at me!" to which everyone averts their eyes.
Meanwhile, the Belch is the average-looking girl wearing too much make-up and has padding stuffed into her bra. Looks good from a distance, but when you get up close and take a look, umm, not so good.
