I understand Rice, but NORTH TEXAS AND UTSA?????? Rice has a name - The other two have NO market, even in their large metro areas. Rice doesn't either, but has a name. WE have a name too and it is not being utilized!

Well, you probably know by now, JMU, USM, ODU and Marshall are headed to the Sun Belt. CUSA will now have five schools with eight full time members needed to have an FBS conference. Do you think CUSA will look to Liberty (well I know that's happening), NMSU (for UTEP) and an FBS call up (Sam Houston perhaps) to get to eight?

As far as the Sun Belt is concerned, I know most weren't excited about the prospect. But your administration's perceived apathy didn't turn off the SBC. It was your administration's arrogance, starting with Dan Reneau when LT joined the WAC. And it ended with the now infamous Tommy McClelland video. THAT'S where your fingers should be pointed.

Yes, we have a name, but Rice's endowment is $6.2 billion versus our $120 million (roughly). Also, they're no. 17 in US News' ranking for national universities compared to our being in the bottom 25%. I sure hate to see us lose our affiliation with Rice.

So, are we to assume no one from our new admin called the Sunbelt office? Or do we assume the Sunbelt ignored our new leadership which includes none of the old leadership because of the old leadership? I am not sure Sunbelt would have us if we called anyway. It doesn’t help them to have 3 teams in Louisiana no matter how much every member of the Belt loves to hate Tech.

Beg my pardon FD, but with an attitude like yours, I wouldn't want to partner with Tech either. It's no wonder Aresco went into hiding when Tech called.

This kind of business is about relationships, FD. Relationships have to be cultivated, and nurtured. They also take time. This comes down to the fact that NO ONE at LA Tech ever bothered to establish or cultivate a relationship with AAC Commissioner Mike Aresco, or any of his AAC associates, until it was too late. I GUARANTEE you that UNT AD Wren Baker didn't make THAT stupid mistake. Not only was Baker cultivating these valuable relationships long before the last two weeks, but Baker & UNT were also proactively co-sponsoring events such as last season's NIT Tournament, partnering with the Dallas Cowboys, and more. and despite sharing the same market as SMU, UNT received an invite to the AAC.

As for the $35M budget problem, that one's easy. Just enact a $300 per Qtr Student Athletic Fee --like each and every one of our other peer institutions-- and we'll have a 35M athletic budget overnight. Such a fee would add roughly $10 million to our $25 Million athletic budget overnight. $25 + $10 = $35M.

LA Tech needs to quit being the "nice guy, losers" when it comes to all this stuff. Sell around your shortcomings. Emphasize your strengths. My God, Louisiana Tech has more strengths, better name recognition and a better athletic program than all 6 of the schools we just lost too. That means somebody is not doing a good enough job.
Your favorite C-USA commissioner hired Dulaney, the former Big10 commish, to break ground for her into this past month's activities. Kinda too late, huh . . . if he had contacts.

Can’t wait for our newest conference mates Abilene Christian, Jacksonville State, and Alabama A&M.

New Mexico State would be a good travel partner for UTEP, since they both fly out of the same airport.

This brings up a good point. What exactly is the concept of travel partners?

UTEP : NMSU = Tech: northeast

The disdain they hold for annoying little brother is greater than any other reasons there may be to get along.

If there is a gap between those amounts, it would have to be well under under $1 million annually or a student fee would have already been proposed. It's certainly not enough to justify increasing student fees a significant amount.
Built in EXCUSES is not what the AAC and peer institutions want to hear. LA Tech has had several decades to deal with that "maximum transfer" limit issue. Get it done. It can now clearly be stated that the current law is an impediment to Louisiana Tech doing business. Nobody, especially including the AAC, wants to take on LA Tech's Board of Regents baggage.

I think the list is longer than Guice, Wood, Holtz, and TMac, but we're officially irrelevant.

But hey...at least we're not in a conference with ULM...right?

Once the Big 12 invites the other members of the AAC they will be short members. Then Tech will go.

I'm not sure there is much value in the SBC either way. The AAC was the last boat out and even they are barely above the waterline.
