What has Tech (the institution) done to make the SunBelt mad? I see a number of tweets from folks that cover the beat at other G-5 schools along the lines of Tech did this to themselves, all the ill-will from Tech, etc. However, nobody every gives the details on such indiscretions.

I get that us yahoos on message boards like BBB talked shit about the Belt, called it the Belch yada yada but there’s no way anyone is making decisions on conference invitations on that.

"Uphill battle" maybe. Impossible, no. What if you offered the customer a Red car...........FULL of MONEY? Oh, I bet your customer's attitude would change then, and you'd make the sale.

Yes, it's an extreme example, but it's also true. Consumers are talked into something different all the time, due to numerous reasons. The point is, it's not really a matter of a white or red car, rather it's really a matter of perceived VALUE. I can sell around the "white car" limitation if I can just find something else the customer genuinely appreciates as much or more. And that's YOUR (or in this case Tech's) job to find out what it is.

Don't worry, it's not lost on me that I'm talking to a board full of engineers, and not sales people.

That hire was 100x worse than Skip Holtz. The damage he did to Louisiana Tech is still being felt today, and if it gets righted, it will take years to do.

It goes way beyond that. But the proposal to merge due to COVID restrictions would have appeased all the western CUSA/SBC programs except UNT and LaTech.

Which is now what happened, the SBC added USM in the center of the western footprint. Added Marshall, ODU and JMU to make App State the center of the eastern footprint.

AAC went solely for markets and budgets. Period, that’s why the higher performing G5 programs within the AAC’s footprint weren’t even considered.

It goes way beyond that.

Yes ... Tech beat every SBC football opponent it played for a full 20 years. (It took the weird covid year for a SBC program to ever have a chance against the Bulldogs.) But Belt fans resented this success are now spinning it as "arrogance" on Tech's part.

In reality, what's really happened is:

1) Tech brings no big media market to television discussions; and
2) SunBelt AD's (and by extension, presidents) know that Tech would quickly become the dominant force in the conference and make their jobs more difficult.
