LA Tech defeats the No. 1 team in the nation, Nebraska, 1,119-986

It has been a rough week to be a Louisiana Tech fan. Thus, I come bearing some good news. LA Tech defeats the No. 1 team in the nation, Nebraska, 1,119-986

College bowling works like this. You have a tournament with a lot of teams. On Friday you bowl five baker games per round against a number of teams. On Saturday you bowl traditional games with 5 bowlers against a number of teams. This sets up a bracket for Sunday.

On Sunday you bowl the bracket to determine the overall champion. So yes, it is a single game in a larger pool but the outcome is the same. Tech defeated the current #1 team, a program that has a LONG history in college bowling (men and women) and has produced a number of top tier, PWBA level talent.

Just so you know, that 1119 is 223.8 average on a sport shot and was one of the best games, if not the best single team game of the event so far this weekend. I'll update this post with where we stand after day 2 but just thought some of you would appreciate a little bit of good Tech news.

Re: LA Tech defeats the No. 1 team in the nation, Nebraska, 1,119-986

We dropped our first round match to the home team Sam Houston State 0-4 and won the second round match against Maryville 4-2 to move into the 3rd place match against the loser of SHSU and NC A&T. Update: Looks like it will be NC A&T we are facing.

FWIW, NC A&T won the tournament we finished #2 in down in New Orleans earlier this season. We get a rematch against a team we lost to earlier this season. NC A&T has a former Team USA coach and has put together a tremendous squad there.

Sam Houston State will play Nebraska for the tournament title.

UPDATE: Nebraska won the tournament. Tech ended up losing in the last round to finish 4th overall. Still a solid showing. We had 3 players finish in the top 10 in the tournament by average.

We are building a very strong resume for postseason play right now with these finishes in these stacked fields. The next tournament we play in is one we have a history of having won.
