What is the appeal of an automatic contract extension? If a big school wants him, which we should also want which means he's having real success, a paltry extension at Tech won't keep him here.
Right? Maybe the security is attractive.
The excuse going back as far and the ill advised extension we gave Dykes the week preceding the bowl game in 2011 was, "it gives stability to assistant coaches". Total BS, but it is the excuse.
Our former AD used the same excuse to give extensions to all his coaches who he did not want to be bothered with while he was looking desperately for another job. Nothing that favored EllAye Tech mind you, just whatever would shut up the coach who had just done their job per their contract (less the championships of course).
This is what happens when academia is making business decisions.
Is it common practice for assistants to have only one year contracts and I guess the same for your two coordinators? Maybe it is at our level only or is pretty much League wide? I see good assistants as our weak link also, we find it hard to pay assistants right. Would love to bring Many Diaz back for a two year rehab stint in the DC position, but doubt that is possible.
So hypothetically, if I was a coach that had 4-5 years left on my contract but was ready to retire, I could just go through the motions for a year or two, get fired, and collect my buyout.
LMAO. College athletics is run by the stupid rich and really poor business people.
I would like to thank Skip for all the good things that he helped accomplished. Unfortunately bad comes with the good, the worst of which is loosing. It will be a long time before any Tech FB coach has as many Bowl victories as He did.
Looking to our new hire, I hope we hire some one who is accessible to fans as Skip and his staff was & not someone like Dooley who seemed to be above interactions like that. Also hope we hire someone with a bright & refreshing resume and not a forth son of a famous coach. Of course, with the Conference situation as it stands, that may be a tough sell.
Also hope whom ever is named as interim is good at convincing our early commitments to stay on board and keep transfers to a minimum.
Been spending time reading different comments from supposed Tech fans on different sports forums , and it’s amazing how far removed from reality they really are. One guy was saying how ignorant this move is because Holtz was trying to play with “second rate athletes”. Do these morons realize that Tech has put 13 guys in the league since Holtz has been here? By comparison, UAB has produced 3.
