And the Holtz apologist(s) (may be only one) are out in force in comments on the Tech Facebook page.

I eventually managed to watch at KSLA. Doesn't look like it's still up.

Wow! I'm SHOCKED at how many well wishers from Texas Tech Sonny Cumbie has saying nice things about him and wishing him well on Twitter. He is obviously very popular there. By contrast, I don't recall hardly anyone wishing Skip Holtz well when we hired him back in December 2012.

All the wishes were directed at us -- as in "good luck with him!" Night and day. Of course, results on the field will tell the true story, but I don't see how you can be upset with anything about this process from the AD's office to this point. Well done.

I think there may have been a few "bless their hearts" and a handful of " you guys are in our prayers" thrown our way when we hired Skip.

Isn’t it amazing what a jolt of change will do to a program when a necessary and rightful decision was made. Even right now it feels like the current Tech football team could take the field and the game’s end results would be much better.

Watching the press conference, I was very pleased with AD Dr. Wood. I like him more today than ever before. I believe what he said about Tech’s athletic goals.

If Coach Cumbie can do what Wood wants, he won’t be here any 9 years. Go Dawgs!!!

Would love to see him here three years, get some big offers, decide to stay that one more year and have a BIG year, and then land that BIG offer.

It kills me but conferences keep making the mistake of "markets" and then when the conference dies because lack of competitive-ness, do it all over again. Its like a cancer or hell it fits the definition of insanity.

With Tech up by four, Skip would have kicked a FG and then likely loose by one.

    This.

The AAC made the mistake of taking "markets" and they now have some terrible teams.

Rice isn't good in ANY sport. Not a single one. Nobody in Houston or Texas is tuning in to watch the Rice Owls play. There may have been a 1000 people at that last football game. Tops!
North Texas? How great is that baseball team?
Charlotte? They have less fans than UAB/UTSA/FAU.

It is all smoke and mirrors garbage. This is why someone like Dykes moves 45 miles down the road to Fort Worth because TCU is still in a P5 conference (for now). The AAC will turn into the C-USA 6.0 with terrible sports teams.

This is why it is important to build something conference wide. Know why the Mountain West does so well and is perceived as the best of the G5 year in and year out? They have competitive teams and they expect excellence from ALL the conference members. You can do that in the new C-USA, but you have to have all the schools left willing to make the commitment. This means FIU needs to stop this BS of no money for sports when they clearly have the largest Student Athletic Fee in the C-USA. It also means the presidents have fire Judy. IMMEDIATELY! She is holding the conference back. Dismiss her now with a severance package or help her find a new job. Hire a real commissioner who will force all the schools to build, schedule up, and play up year after year then sell the hell out of the new C-USA.

    WKU looks good.
Jacksonville State made a move with Rich Rod.
    Tech is making a move.
    UTEP is moving up.
    NMSU just hired Jerry Kill.

I think the drag will eventually kill the Sun Belt. The C-USA couldn't sustain 16 teams. I don't know how the Sun-Belt will fair. That "huge" TV contract they were all screaming about won't get much bigger and they will feel the strain splitting that pot in more mouths to feed.

Well I finally got to watch the press conference. Ask me if I'm not pumped. This guy is excited and that's going to bleed over to the players, other coaches, and the fans. Dr. Wood, thank you for taking the lead in this and making this happen. I think we're in for a great run with Coach Cumbie. I pray he's successful 'cause Lord we need some success. But one thing is evident...he's ALL IN. Go Dawgs!!
