The Shreveport Times also ran an article on Lyddy after Skip left saying he was still committed to Tech. FWIW, he tweeted a thank you to Skip when he left and also retweeted Tech's welcome video for Cumbie.

Just my opinion here, but if anything, the hiring of Cumbie should make Tech more attractive to him than it was with Skip given his experience with high-production offenses. And we're now competing against Colby Cameron for Lyddy which is an interesting twist.

I hope he can get good fast. Looks like someone is Head(ing) for the transfer portal.

True, but Bicknell, Dykes, and Holtz had the benefit of inheriting a team that had their coach hired away as opposed to a team that just fired the coach. It didn't help Holtz because we had 134 seniors leave when Dykes took off.

Interesting comment. While it's true that Sonny Dykes followed Derek Dooley --who was hired away by Tennessee-- it's also true that Dooley finished a miserable 4-8 that last season, and lost 6 of his last 8 games. This indicates to me that there was still some significant "rebuilding" that Sonny Dykes had to take on in his first season.

Simple: Play action, Bootleg rollout, Run-Pass option.

-- the LB's will be frozen and jam the middle with the play action fake
-- The rolling out QB has a choice of running it for 1-yd and an easy 1st down, or passing it to our TE for a 6-yd gain and an easy 1st down.

I swear, I don't know why more coaches don't run this. When Conroy Hines was Tech's OC back in the WAC days, I bet him money that he would score a TD if he ran this play inside San Jose State's 5-yd line. He ran it, and LA Tech's QB walked the ball into the end zone. It was the easiest TD I've ever seen Tech score.

Baylor just ran THIS EXACT SAME BOOTLEG PLAY today for their first TD against OSU in the Big XII Championship game. (Baylor currently leads 14-3 early in the 2nd Qtr.)

So far, Baylor's defense and "violent" running game is spelling the difference. Long way to go though...

‘’May I also suggest that we get wooden 8 foot high letters (or a banner) with the words “COMPETE”. Gather all the players out in a field somewhere, over by the railroad tracks near the Field House. Start a bonfire and throw the COMPETE letters in the bonfire and Coach Sonny declares, “From this day forward, we don’t “compete”, WE WIN. And give each player a simple banner or sign that they can hang in their dorm room that says “WE WIN”. And have “WE WIN” everywhere in that field house and locker room.

I think his definition didnt align with Holtz’s.
