Only time will tell if this is a good hire or not. I will go on record and say it looks good on paper.

I am glad it was quick, it needed to be.

I am satisfied with Sonny, I will get behind him and support him, was not my choice, but I can live with that.

I think AD EW had a list of current/top names already when the firing happened, just like a good AD needs to have.

Yes it certainly seemed we weren't scrambling with the "selection search committee" this time around. A good sign.

I'm cautiously optimistic. There is fresh air on the wind and not a second too late.

    Sonny to Skippy to Sonny...

On paper, because that's all most of us have, this is a good hire. And again, kudos to Wood (and Guice) for making a timely and decisive decision. Only time will tell if this is a truly "good" hire, but I am willing to give Coach Crumbie a chance.

I am not on Champion110's level, but I am feeling optimistic again!

A lot of HC call their own plays. Some are good at it, some aren’t.

Holtz wasn’t. A good HC recognizes his limitations.

    This.

I like the thought process behind the hire: Exciting Offense-minded, Texas-centric, Young-ish/up and coming...this could be really good, y'all!

Now...Coach C -- get that defense nightmare straighted out!! Edit: Coaching nightmare, not players! We have some REALLY good talent on Defense...they just need better coaching.

Question for someone in the know.

How much of the HC’s compensation is paid by Tech vs the foundation/private sources?

For Skip, I believe it was $200K from Tech and the rest ($600K or something close to it) from the foundation.

OL who completely whiff on blocks won't see many snaps in Cumbie's offense. I don't think I ever saw more totally whiffed blocks in an entire season as I did in some games this year.

Hard to run an offense when more than one OL whiffs on the same play as happened at least a couple of times this year.

This sounds correct. I believe Louisiana state law prohibits paying a coach more than $X (I want to say it's $200K, actually)...anything above that is 'privately' funded.

    Y'all keep me honest.

Come on over to the bright side. If he turns out to be good, you get to feel great twice (now and after he starts winning). If he doesn't work out, at least you get to feel good now. The other side is feel bad now and after - with luck, you get to feel good later, at least.

On the hire, Cumbie sounds like a great one! I think we needed an offense minded person. It will be interesting to see him in action with his players. It may take a little time to recruit the ones he wants. If we have some to leave, that leaves openings for some of his style players to come in. LOVE the quick decision to keep and bring some new ones in!

Yep...the image of our OL turned around watching the DL dogpile our running back is imprinted on my brain.

$200K from Tech and $575K from the foundation this year. The next three years had $650K from the foundation.

Anyone else think that DJ Shockley would make a nice QB coach?
