    Techsters win 69-56

They shot 85% from the FT line, we struggled at 64%. Game should not have been this close. Hit our FTs and it wouldn't have been. Yeah, maybe it was "just" Miss Valley State and the Techsters were not motivated to play hard and with focus. But, you can't set it on cruise control and not run into trouble one day. Besides, it's also about establishing good habits every day, every practice, and every game. The opponent doesn't matter...take care of business.

Agree and the Techsters are still very streaky. The men's team finally seem to have improved a lot at the FT line. I hope Brooke can figure out what they are doing to improve, because it is working. A win is a win, though - we have to beat these teams that we are supposed to beat.

If I was Brooke, I'd suggest this: Have your team run a wind sprint "down the court and back". But STOP at the free throw line on the way back, and shoot 2 free throws. Then, go to the end line under the basket and do the whole process again.

Practicing free throw shooting this way will help the player to get accustomed to shooting free throws with their heart pumping really fast, and when they are breathing heavy.

Shooting 100 free throws back to back is okay for accuracy practice, and shooting free throws in a game after a timeout. But it doesn't account for shooting free throws when you're breathing heavy and your heart's pumping hard because you've been running up and down the court.

Yep! we did similar drills when I coached basketball. We would mix it in, like we'd be working on something else, our defense or halfcourt offense and a coach blows a whistle and the team breaks up into two groups and hurries to the two goals, and each player had to make two FTs. We also finished every practice shooting FTs.

Your point about mimicking game conditions...panting, adrenaline pumping, and having to calm down enough to shoot a FT is well taken.

One of these days, the Tech admin will figure out that they can get the same results from a high school coach with a bare minimum salary and no spouse on the bench for extra income.

I'll do it! Don't need much salary.

The free throw drills mentioned about by HogDawg and dawg80 are exactly what needs to be done. Of course, I don't know how Brooke is doing it now. She was one of the best FT shooters we have ever had at Tech, so she should know the right drills. Hopefully, she is doing the above.

Brooke was the best FT shooter in college basketball history, men's and women's. Her mark has been broken now, but she held it for years.
