    Other Tournaments

Both FAU and Rice are heading to the CBI Tourney held in Daytona Beach, Florida. I find it curious that some of their fans are excited about it. But, know what, that's a good thing, especially for FAU fans who can easily attend.

Someone posted that they better enjoy this because the AAC does not allow its members to participate in such post-season tournaments. Don't know if that is true, but if so, the new AAC had better get over itself. You ain't that good.

Unfortunately, we are not going to the NIT. There were 10 auto-bids, so that doesn’t leave room for many at-larges.

I am not giving up hope just yet for a NIT bid, even though I know chances are slim Tech will get one. I don't really like the "pay to play" tournaments, but I could be okay with one this year if it is what it takes to continue the season.

Nobody cares about the NIT anymore, except the schools that participate.

What's not to love about playing for 69th best?

I don't know, I do think there are better positions to be in but I couldn't say no to it if the opportunity arose.

I hope we get into the NIT but it is doubtful. I will be upset if we participate in any of the pay to play tournaments.

It is time to revaluate our MBB program from top to bottom - coaches, support staff, players, schedules, recruiting, etc. We have failed for 3 decades. It is time for an entirely new strategy.

Like this? Tech announced a new strategy and has decided to start winning conference auto-bids. That's been our problem, we just weren't strategizing for winning .

If we miss the NIT then I hope we get something else, like the CBI. Rather this team keep playing/practicing.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I completely agree. If I were the coach, I'd thank AAA and X for their service, but let them sit these games out as well. The only truly encouraging thing about the loss yesterday is that 7 of the 9 that played were FR/SO. I would also get T. Williams minutes in this tournament.

Winning a conference tournament and going to the Big Dance would be great (yanno since winning the regular season doesn't get you to the Big Dance in a one bid league), but therein lies the problem - Tech is in a one bid conference. Top teams from multiple bid conferences get beat in conference tournaments often (e.g., Auburn, Duke, Illinois this year) but still get to go dancing - and get high seedings to boot. Tech was a few 3-pointers and free throws away from winning yesterday. I think the system sucks. There should be a limit to how many teams a conference can send, or at the very least, a minimum number of at-large bids that must go to non-P5 schools. I know it sounds like "affirmative action", but the system is stacked against the little guys.

My guess is we will at least have an opportunity to play in the "The Basketball Classic" (fka CIT) if the NCAA and NIT don't pan out. https://thebasketballclassic.com/ But we shall see.

I wonder what Junior's post means. Could it mean they are not done playing for this year, or this year is done, let's start working for next year? https://twitter.com/itzjunior34/stat...82226057539593

Nope. Not invited. UTEP is going though. Arky State and Liberty declined invites. Our season is over.
