That's been on the books since March 2020. It's a good series against a quality opponent.

They are the first choice for Pac12 expansion / not sure if the series will stay if that happens.

LA Tech Football Schedules H&H Series with SDSU - LA Tech Athletics (latechsports.com)

One school bound to eventually join Pac-12, while no more exits from the conference are expected

I wouldn't count on away games at UTEP and MT or a home game against FIU next year. The way C-USA schedules, all of those games could be at repeat sites from 2022.

I get it. But, March 2020 was BEFORE LA Tech got "left behind" in the conference reshuffle like a stranded child. I think we could argue that things have changed materially since that time. I like SDSU, but Rome is burning, and nobody is paying attention. Seems to me we should be scheduling games in our recruiting geography, unless they are paying us a bundle. (And I know they are not, with a H/H)

Not saying Troy is some powerhouse G5er, but, and especially for an up-and-comer like Sam Houston State, scheduling teams like Troy H/H is a nice get. Makes sense. Winnable games vs. a decent G5 REGIONAL opponent. That was my point for what I said in this above post.

But since being left behind we've scheduled USM and UNT, right?

That just kinda feels like being lonely and texting an ex or former fling that you think is still probably down.

Ok. So not good teams far away. Not any former conference mates. We're looking to schedule nearby teams that we have no history with?

...and we need another team like that, or any AAC school --in our recruiting geography-- instead of SDSU.

We did share the last year of the WAC with Texas State so we do have some history with them, even if it was one year. Troy though we've never played and I was disappointed that we scheduled South Alabama again in the future. I would rather play Troy just to have variation in the schedule.

I wonder if that H&H with USM will be extended or perhaps that ends it for us at least immediate future. Both us and USM have a lot of empty spaces in future schedules that could have been filled if there was an interest.

If we could get long term with UNt and USM , but I’d rather be in DFW more than MS

Yeah, we got a lot more alumni in Dallas than Hattiesburg.

No doubt that our best attended games have been at UNT.

I don't think the coaches (schedulers) care about the fans. I'm pretty sure they want convenience for the recruits. I was thinking about this earlier. With Holtz our recruiting base was always south of I-10 which makes USM and Lafayette a closer game spot than Ruston for those recruits. I pretty sure Cumbie will focus on Texas before South Louisiana. Texas is MUCH more talent rich than the "ones that got away" south of I-10.
