Re: Should we expand the House?

i think there is some legitimate worry about functionality. a better alternative would be to return more of the government's power and functionality to the states. then direct representation on the national level is not as important.

friscodawg makes a good point. have the senators appointed by the states by whatever process the state legislature chooses.

then eliminate federal income tax. tax each state proportional to the number of representatives in the house, and let each state decide how to collect revenue.

eliminate federal programs that aren't a federal job by necessity. let state and local governments do the important work so that agencies are directly accountable to the people they "serve".

oh, and it is completely inexcusable that we don't have a balanced budget requirement.

Absolutely. In the responsible American household or business, we don’t operate outside of our attainable debt service ratio. If you can’t pay the bill, don’t borrow the money. Each year, our church budgets off the previous years giving. If we couldn’t cover it last year, we don’t add it for this year. Simple.

Government should be forced to budget based off previous years tax base. There are formulas to project growth and could be implemented to determine any increases we could handle.

Yep. Whatever the prior fiscal year tax revenues are plus the COLA inflation percentage should be the maximum amount of budgeted spending for the next fiscal year.

Emergency exceptions should require a 2/3 or maybe even a 3/4 majority vote of both houses.

And any unspent surpluses in any department plus unbudgeted excess tax revenues should be used to directly pay down the national debt and for service on that debt. Maybe even limit the budget to 5% below the inflation-adjusted maximum to build in anticpated paydowns of the debt.

As opposed to that traitor Cassidy who did and does what those who voted against him wanted him to do...other than the Trump haters.

BTW I didn't read the posted article. All I had to see was "washingtonpost" and that one of our resident libtards supports it to know from whence it came. Bet Pelosi will try to create 100 new house seats in California, all in carefully drawn blue areas, of course.

Pathetic...can't win the arena of ideas, so just change the game.
indesu says I am wrong. Right, because the Dems want to pack the Supreme Court, end the filibuster in the Senate and then pack the Senate by adding DC and Puerto Rico as states.

Talk about "willful ignorance" that's indesu to a t.

The Swamp has chit all over the 10th Amendment and "we the people" have allowed them to get away with it.

Among other things you're wrong on where this idea is coming from.

You are exactly right about this. Anytime the Democrats get in serious trouble, they simply figure out a way to move the gold posts.
