''Don't be a bad dagh..."
If I'm understanding this story correctly, this is Brett Favre's problem, has nothing to do with the Sun Belt and very little to do with USM.
Careful throwing shade guys...we've had enough of our own scandals to keep us humble.
USM benefitted from the funds of the alleged fraud. And who is still by far the most recognizable athletic name for USM? Those things won't be going away any time soon.
The Wylys were huge benefactors of Tech, but they were never the most recognizable names of Tech athletics. Tech at least has multiple instantly recognizable names as big as Favre. And the calendar keeps turning....

The C-USA schools negotiated a buyout with the league in the “neighborhood of $1.75 million” in addition to forfeiting one year of conference revenue, sources said.
If I am reading our last auditor report correctly our conference revenue was around 1.8 Million with Media, NCAA distributions, Conference Distributions, and Conference Bowl Distributions combined.
This means the SBC3 got out by paying 1.75M and forfeiting another 1.5-75M, so roughly 3-3.5M per school to leave early.
My guess is that they negotiated the 1.75M in a 10 year installment plan with the hopes that the league folds in 5.

Some of you may know by now, but here’s some news.
Conference USA has filed for a protective order against yours truly and several other reporters in an attempt to keep private its settlement with USM.

This is not a car payment. If we agreed to an installment plan, then all our leaders need to be dropped off in the desert and wished good luck. If moving conferences was such an imperative and great deal, you should be able to pay it up front.
We definitely got screwed if they want the record sealed. Book it.
I've had this thought for some time now and with today's news perhaps now is the time to throw it out there. I had the thought that the three schools leaving C-USA are fed up with the leadership of the conference, have decided that the wimps at the other schools are never going to demand better and so have decided to go elsewhere, thinking it can be no worse.
I can’t blame anyone from leaving this loser conference. We could literally pick someone at random and get better leadership than what we have now.
Seems like small potatoes for breaking the conference bylaws
