Let’s say a guy named Dave gets a mortgage so his family has a place to live. But then Dave gets cancer and now he can’t work and has high medical bills. As a result he can no longer pay his mortgage which puts him in breach of contract.
Surely you’re not going to tell me this breach is due to Dave’s lack of integrity. Right?

The exit fees are paid by them staying in the C-USA. The exit fees are their forfeiture of ALL distribution for the last year. Hence why the AAC schools are all staying to fulfill their contractual obligations. Their last year is THEIR exit fees.
This is why it is so important to take to court. It is a contractual obligation. I’m guessing you don’t care much for contractual obligations.

USM, Marshall, ODU have neither claimed nor demonstrated such circumstances. They just don’t think the rules should apply to them. They will fit in well with the cajuns

In football maybe, but USM doesn't help much. ODU really doesn't help either.
In men's basketball C-USA actually would improve without these three schools based on their last couple of seasons.
Each year, wins and records will change. Perception is everything, though. I don't see the belt changing much in how the country sees them - if they see them at all. We are all G5 in football and the belt and MAC are on the lowest rungs of that ladder. They could break out and get into a New Years 6 bowl and people will say "wow, they are really good this year for the belt". That is just the way it is. We are not that much ahead of them, but our basketball will be improved. Bringing in Sam Houston is doing nothing for our reputation, though.

First it depends on the sport.
For football G5s not named AAC or MWC its year by year. The SBC will find itself with many more mouths to feed and some will be bottom dwellers. I expect the C-USA and the SBC to swap places routinely in football.
Basketball, C-USA is way way better. SBC is getting USM which is a mess of a program.
Baseball is TBD.
