Standings and getting hot at the right time

Amazingly, the Lady Techsters have pretty much locked up the top spot in CUSA West. They have won their last 8 out of 10 games and could have a 20 win season with a victory over UAB on Saturday and one win in the tournament. That is a big improvement over last year.

Beating ODU was big last night. ODU was 12-4 in conference and 22-6 overall going into last night. Beating them on their home court was amazing (and was a great finish to the game).

They, actually, could beat any team in the conference on any given night AND could lose to any team in the conference on any given night. They have been very inconsistent, but have done much better over their last 10 games.

#1 in the West is great, but the East is the power side this year. Taking down ODU kept the Monarchs out of contention for the top overall seed (they were trailing Charlotte by 1 game and tied with MTSU before last night).

The big difference is how the young players have stepped up, along with Roberson. Walker was great on defense, as always, but was double teamed and did not contribute a lot of points last night. The bench was great!

Walker is still our star, along with Roberson, but having the young players step up is a big difference.

How the hell did we lose to lowly UTSA?

That said (asked), Brooke does have a track record for having her teams peak come conference tourney time. Obviously, Walker can't ride the bench in foul trouble if we hope to have success in Frisco. But! out of that there is some encouraging hope the team can beat a quality opponent w/o Walker.

    Love dem Techsters!

Interesting... I think that means that if we beat UAB tomorrow, the Techsters finish #1 in the West. We beat North Texas twice, but Southern Miss beat us twice. With one game short, that should put the Techsters on top of the West. We need to beat UAB again for some insurance, though! Southern Miss plays Charlotte, so that should be a Charlotte win which just gives us even better insurance.

Our tournament chances are fairly decent, actually. If we play our best, we have a chance at winning it all! As for the East, we did lose to Charlotte by only 3 points and beat ODU. WKU doesn't look as strong this year, but we do have an early season loss to them. We have become much stronger since that time. I don't have a good feel for MT on the women's or men's side. They play ODU tomorrow, so I will be hoping for an ODU win.
