Back in 1986 a 16-13 Tech got an NIT bid. Was that based on what the '86 team had done? Nope! It was born of the success the program was riding on. We were a known commodity and had the reputation of being a legit program. Yes, the '86 team did play, as I recall, a representative schedule vs. some toughies. But 16-13 was not good enough, on its own merits, to get us in. "Rep" got us in. And then we made the most of it by going 4-1 and reaching MSG, the Final Four.

So now, in 2022, Tech hoops is considered to be mediocre, a real Blah! No one is gonna do us any favors, we have to go out and seize it. Of course, it won't help to enter a pay-to-play and then lose early, especially be one and done. Maybe that's the real issue. No one in charge at Tech has any confidence in Konkol's bunch.

Would rather go to Puerto Rico or Canada over the summer than spend $50k to $60k on a buy-in...

Like Dwayne & I posted above, I'd prefer a summer trip with the new team. Maybe get Crawford a few minutes a game if he's healthy.

That would be perfect... I can't wait to get Crawford back in the lineup.. He was definitely missed this year and needs to get back in game shape.

I haven't read much on recruiting, but I hope we get another Willis for shooting. When Willis is off (tournament final), we are doomed. We should have two scholarships open.

The transfer portal, along with NIL, is not good for schools like Tech IMHO. If you have a really good player you may not be able to hold onto him.

The NIT needs to be expanded to 64 teams like the WNIT, and the buy-in tournaments need to go away.

Biggest obstacle to that move is ESPN.

This is where the breakup of CUSA is going to be a VERY good thing for LA Tech (and the other remaining members.) We go from having to defeat 13 other teams for 1 NCAA Tournament bid, to having to only defeat 7, for the same one bid. That's going to be MUCH better for our basketball program.

We were talking about tournaments, not NIL. I don't like NIL either, but it is a fact of life right now.

Tech's last summer foreign trip was in 2018. A team is allowed to do that once every 4 years, so that would be an option for this summer.
