I guess anything is possible, but.......
This is a guy who has had 12 jobs in the last 20 years. No idea what he is making at Texas Tech, but when he was here he was making $137,800. Konkol was making $400,000, so this will be a big increase for him. How many head coaching opportunities have had his name attached to them in the past?
I suspect he will jump on any opportunity pretty quickly. Even if it is a 3-4 year deal. 4 years for $1.2-1.4 million looks great from his point of view. If he is indeed the guy.
My guess is that sometime today between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm word will leak out that Talvin Hester will be the new head coach at La Tech University and an introductory press conference will be call for 1:00 pm Wednesday afternoon -
But that's my guess

BREAKING | #LATech is expected to hire Talvin Hester to be the next HC of the Bulldogs, per sources.
Hester was an assistant at LA Tech from 2018-2021 before spending the 2021-2022 season at Texas Tech.

Looks like DFM and THE BBB were the first to report a lot of things regarding MBB
Now hearing the press conference will be tomorrow -
The reason I guessed Wednesday is because I guessed that they would not make the media make two trips in one day to Ruston since you assume most of the working press will be over for the big baseball game - I'm wondering if it will be a late afternoon presser now...

Excellent!,,
I am excited for this hire. My understanding is that Coach Hester had a big hand in recruiting a lot of the players currently on our Dunkin' Dogs roster. If so, this is a huge vote of confidence to our team, (and for all us) that Dr. Wood was able to bring in a coach to return to us from an elite 8 tournament appearance with the Red Raiders!
HBTD!
This seems good.
Basketball guys, y'all think the same?
Time will tell -
So far it looks like Wood is batting 1000% with softball (definite) and football (this fall will tell)
My biggest problem is this hire doesn't fit the Wood "model" that his been exhibited here so far in his tenure -
An aging (50+) nomad life-time assistant who has the rep as very good recruiter, but he was well thought of during his nearly 3 year tenure here
I hope this move wasn't to appease the current roster, because we have been down that road before and it wasn't pretty at all
But I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and I'm interested to hear his philosophy and plan
And for all the Konkol haters out there - this is a Konkol guy, he brought him here and had him here for 3 years so it's not exactly a changing of the guard are a turn in a new direction

The positive is that Wood was here for Hester's last season on staff. I would be concerned if Wood had not been at Tech while Hester was on staff.
I don't believe Wood is making this move for the two years at most and possibly only one year that Tech would keep Lofton if he stays at Tech. Wood's vision across the board seems to be more on a 3-4 year timeline.
This was my only concern with Hester.
He doesn't fit the model of the young up and comer about to hit it big and looking for his next stop on the upward career trajectory. You are right. You never hire to appease the current roster ESPECIALLY not in the era of yearly transfers. This is the era of mercenaries not student athletes. FWIW. Hester's rep is as a recruiter. I hope that there is tactical side as well.
