Big question is if he does jump to the Golden Hurricane - what effect will it have on our roster

Nationally he has a great rep on what he has accomplished here given the resources (worked with less than Mike White had) -

What style do we want to see in Ruston? Fast pace with lots of pressing and good defense and buckets in transition like Mike White’s teams? Whatever that was with Konkol? Other past coaches have a style we should try to find again?

If you watched Miami in the tourney you saw exactly what Konkol was trying to do here and did do here…

In basketball circles Konkol is very well respected and has had opportunities to leave before

Agreed about Konkol-- class act and great coach. It's not easy to get good players who are also good kids to come play basketball in Ruston. But Konkol has been able to do that and he has also shown an ability to adjust his coaching strategy according to his personnel (same thing Larranaga is doing at Miami). That's something he does better than Mike White imo.

Here's who I'd love to see us go after if we lose Konkol. Might not be able to land him but it would be nice to take a swing. I love the way Houston plays.

I don’t know what to think about that. Will Jr and others follow him to TULSA? Really? Will they try to find a bigger program to move up? Will the incoming coach be so liked by his players that some follow him here? With the new transfer portal option, our roster could have 10 new faces next season.

That’s the era we are now in -

Or does he have a hard number and conditions he won’t waiver from and only leave if they meet it knowing what he has coming back in Ruston?

Many of our fans would think of this as a semi-lateral move when in essence it’s not

We are probably much closer to McNeese than we are to Tulsa…

Main two -

Covid not shutting down the 2020 tourney

Not scheduling that stupid game the last week of last season where Cobe broke his finger

Otherwise it's a FT here or there - a made three or an opponents missed three

He won 22 or more games in 5 of his 7 years

He had double digit conference wins 5 of 7 years (finished 3rd or higher 5 of the 7 years)

His worst year was 2017-18 when he went 17-16 and 9-11 in conference

This year - we three games basically on the last possession - either a made 3, missed 3, inability to secure a rebound or inability to make FTs when it mattered

I think some of our people are shocked that Konkol is garnering serious interest from what they perceive as a per school - but if you look at his track record as a first time D1 coach, it's pretty damn solid

Seems like last year there was fortunate breaks for Western Kentucky in terms of forfeitures so they were able to avoid playing North Texas and UAB (or something like that). We won the west but not overall. This year, the loss of Crawford really hurt us (at the 4).

Crawford was a preseason all conference selection also -

And he lost will Allen also who was expected to see minutes

Crawford is probably worth 3 additional regular season wins - UNT here, UTEP here, FAU there and maybe LSU in Bossier

My big question is are the players loyal to each other, the coach or the school? If we can hire someone quickly, can we keep the core together.

When White left, we only lost 2 players (and one 1 recruit IIRC)
