I haven’t seen Burroughs coach us to a win yet but I’ve seen him coach us to several losses. I swear the guy has no feel for the game whatsoever.
A new article has been posted on www.latechsports.com:
RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech falls in game two of the midweek series 8-6 to UL-Lafayette on Wednesday night at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
Discuss it here.
There were 4 hits before that error. Whorff has done nothing all year to justify staying with him after the 2nd hit.
Whorff has half of our losses. He should’ve been gone.
Someone needs to tell Burroughs he’s not running a rehabilitation center. His job is to win games.
RPI down to 34 and will continue to drop over the weekend even with a sweep

Your observation is perfectly on point. I’d say Burroughs has made it crystal clear that he is never going to win a conference championship for Louisiana Tech. A championship caliber coach has to be game smart as well as intuitive and Burroughs simply doesn’t have that in him. He seemingly coaches far more not to hurt his players’ feelings than to win baseball games. I’ve seen that very thing several times in his years at Tech already, but to make the point right now while it’s all fresh in our minds. There’s no way Whorff should’ve been on the mound long enough to give up five runs and to set Laffy up to score 7, but Burroughs and his wishful imagination must’ve thought he was going to get a pick 6 or something. It was blatantly obvious Whorff wasn’t getting it done and yet batter after batter after batter Burroughs left him in effectively dwindling our lead away. In addition to that Brantley shouldn’t be playing (period)! As sad as it for him he’s nothing more than wasted at bats, it’s just that simple. As bad as all that is already is Burroughs’ denial of what our biggest problem is,... him. In the post game interview with Nitz, he didn’t own even an ounce of what went wrong in last night’s game. Fundamentally when you put guys on the field who fall short repeatedly it’s your failing... Burroughs. And now as it’s been too many times before we play at an underachieving level and limp into the weekend not feeling good about ourselves. How many more times is Burroughs going to repeat these colossal errors in judgement? The answer is, forever. He’s already proved repeatedly that he’s incapable of getting out of his own way and thereby the team’s way. Burroughs is going to lead Tech to more underachieving loses than any overachieving victories. That’s a lot of venting. Now hopefully I’ll have this bad taste out of my mouth by first pitch Friday. Go Dawgs, be better than your coach.
LB is the perfect Tech coach, he checks all the boxes, which can be summed up as: not horribly lousy, just hopelessly mediocre.
Last night was brutal -
Just listening to it was brutal -
Whether it's Worff's forearm or between his ears (Steve Blass effect), I don't know but LB threw gas on the fire last night...
And man our defense was atrocious - should of been 2 additional errors than what was charged

The biggest issue for me was the fact our coaches didn't seem to understand the situation given the combination of our pitcher - and his recent struggles - and the opponent and their strengths.
The Cajuns have really struggled all year against pitchers who can mix speeds and get breaking balls over the plate. Our freshman starter proved that last night. Their success has come against hard throwers, like Whorff as of late, who struggle to mix it up.
Whorff got through the 5th but early in the 6th it was obvious he couldn't get his breaking pitches over the plate or fool anyone with them.
That caused him to make mistakes.
He had hitters down 0-2 twice in the inning and served up fastballs over the heart of the plate both times. And both were lined for base hits.
Early in the inning people were screaming from the stands for Lane to pull him. It was obvious he just didn't have what he needed to get people out.
Leaving him out there wasn't doing him or the team any good. But it went on and on and on....
A person sitting next to me said it reminded him of the football game in the early 90s where LSU's coaching staff - with a double digit lead at Auburn - kept calling passing plays and Jamie Howard kept throwing interceptions.
Painful.
