It’s almost inevitable that we’ll stumbling all over ourselves until the season ends. Like I’ve said, Burroughs is simply not the guy to lead Tech to anything consistently special. All he does is write up the lineup card and for the most part that’s a guessing game for him. And even in that I think he gets it more wrong than right.

if our hitting is any indication of coaching…

Gaspard getting tossed was probably the most work he’s done all year.

    It's honestly boring

If you want your excitement, come early in the season

Don't bother spending the money later on

Rinse and repeat for 30 years

Yep, it was back in 2013 when I didn't look forward to listening to a Tech game on the radio. I'm there again.

I have always said, "It's all about pitching." That's usually the case, but w/out looking it up, I'm guessing we've lost as many games due to lack of offense as we have due to lack of or mismanagement of pitching.

This year our team era is much higher than last year. Pitching has been decent for us.

Two things have killed us this year:

    1. Our team batting average is in the toilet this year. Several players are sub .190. Elliot hasn’t had a hit in a month it feels like and yet is still starting.

    2. Lame brained coaching decisions. You don’t leave a pitcher in the game when he is getting shelled like at LR. That is unacceptable.

Elliott gets no blame for last night since he didn't see the field.

But there was no difference at the plate as Berch went 0-3 with two strikeouts. That sounds very familiar.

But the area I am most concerned about Berch was very evident as his defense was very shaky. He made a soft toss to Young on a potential double play relay that Taylor just missed turning, and that extra run scored on a home run by the next batter. There were at least three Berch wide and low throws to Matulia at first that took great scoops and stretches to somehow hold the bag to complete outs. And the short fly behind second that McConnell had to charge to make the catch when Berch nearly undressed himself should be on a comedy reel.

Berch's defense didn't cost the game last night, but if it doesn't improve quickly it could cost Tech in close games. And as bad as .194 for Elliott might be, it's still better than Berch at .167. Last night might not be a big enough sample size, but the results could not be called an improvement.

But the biggest embarrassment of this team is the DH spot. Burchfield and Brantley have combined for a lower batting average than Elliott. Goes directly to coaching if you can't get a least one player ready to do a single job (hit) and be able to bat somewhere close to .250.

Your crush on .194 is obvious. At this point it doesn’t matter. We are done.

I have no crush on him, and nothing in my above post indicates that. But your crush AGAINST him is blatant. I am just not willing to risk defense without clear improvement on offense. I want Berch to succeed, but I didn't see much last night to give me confidence that will happen at 2B.

Berch is a "center fielder by trade", a direct quote from Burroughs last week. If he has only practiced only once or twice at second all year as Burroughs said in his postgame interview last night, that is again on the coaching staff for not having an adequate backup at that position. At .111 Easterling wouldn't be an answer either.

And it's funny that the discussion is about backup players on this team when Tech doesn't have nine consistent players to put in a starting batting order. No regular 1B that can hit other than having to move Matulia from LF has greatly limited Tech's lineup options.

Lineup not on Elon's World yet. According to live stats Berch gets another shot at 2B, but there are other shakeups. Matulia moves back to LF, Myers will DH, and Wallace returns to the lineup at 1B.
