Speaking of lousy hitting, how many times do our guys finish a swing with only one hand on the bat? A lot!!!!

We were taught to keep both hands on the bat throughout the swing. You shift your body, maybe lean into the pitch, if it is painting the outside black. You never lunged or reached for the pitch by using just one hand.

    Basic fundamentals

ODU's Wheeler just hit a 9th inning 2-out solo HR off the new video board which is now working to tie the game 4-4 with USM.

So, we have 1 starting pitcher, 1 reliever, and a closer. We have 2 guys in our lineup who we can depend on to put the bat on the ball. Seems like a recipe for a completely inexplicable run in the conference tourney.

While we’re making observations if you were at the games you saw FA dictate the games they won by quick pitching our batters and yet we did essentially nothing to counter their control. The one batter who called for time wasn’t granted it and took a strike when he wasn’t even in the box. That was when Burroughs had some ump ass. Once again in the course of those games we needed some coaching to do something different, but we clearly didn’t get it. Coaching matters...

Young, Matulia, McConnell, & Netterville went a combined 1-16 with 5 Ks today... Ouch!

Re: LA Tech Opens Series With Florida Atlantic Friday Night

25 hits in 3 games is nothing special. 5 hits today was not good enough.

Young is only 8-36 (.222) in Tech's last 10 games. If the table is not being set, it is hard for Tech to score runs.

    Series batting:
    McConnell 5-13, 3 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBI
    Netterville 4-13, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI
    McLeod 3-8, 1 2B, 1 RBI
    Myers 3-12, 1 2B
    Matulia 3-12
    Lancaster 2-8, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI
    Corona 2-10, 1 HR, 2 RBI
    Young 2-12, 1 2B. 2 RBI
    Burchfield 1-4
    Brantley 0-1
    Slaughter 0-1
    Elliott 0-3
    Berch 0-5

Hit batsman on an 0-2 count.
    Fouts visits. Bullpen is hot.
Single to center. Runners at first and third.
Double to right. Runners at second and third. FAU 5-0.
    Strikeout #6 looking.

McConnell flies to left on the first pitch. Getting ridiculous.
Corona BOMB to left center. FAU 5-1.
Myers asked for time that wasn't granted. Burroughs hot (ploy to light a fire under the team).
Myers strikes out on a pitch way outside. 7.
    McLeod walks.
Lancaster grounds to second. First ground ball out.

    FAU 5-1 after 6.
This two run gift from the home plate ump may not have made the difference, but it didn't help. He called two 3rd pitch strikes balls that he'd been strikes all day.

As you know this is the same guy who cost us the above runs along with the HORRILBE call yesterday. We called for T.O. three times today when he refused to give it. Told the batter and LB all the batter had to do was step out of the box.

With FA winning the series today and having the tiebreaker over Tech, we’re now in 4th place and squarely positioned to face USM in their CUSA especially prepared backyard tournament. If it feels like things are getting steadily worse it’s because they are, but fear not because there’s a big resurgence coming .

We are clearly not getting leadership when it is needed the most, from players or coaches. What a sad ending to a promising year. It will take a miracle to even reach the finals of the CUSA tournament, much less a regional.

Re: LA Tech Opens Series With Florida Atlantic Friday Night

Could it be that our Dawgs are chokers, I wonder? I mean we had things right where we wanted them... playing at home with so many reasons to win and just as important so many reasons not to lose. With a win we would’ve been in second place with the tie breaker over UTSA and only 2 games out of 1st. Granted overtaking USM with them having the tiebreaker over us wouldn’t have been easy, but with a little luck, it’s at least mathematically possible. Now though after our sad sack underachieving showing Sunday we’re 3 wins removed from 1st and in 4th place. I can see getting beaten by a good team who catches the breaks and beats you in the back and forth of things, but today’s game was mostly pathetic on our part. It really makes one wonder what’s in the heart of this team.

Re: LA Tech Opens Series With Florida Atlantic Friday Night

In the last 13 games Tech is 7-6. In those 13 games Tech has had 10 or more hits just 4 times and is 3-1 in those games (loss at Little Rock). Tech is 4-5 in the other 9 games with just 5 hits twice (0-2 including today), 6 hits four times (2-2), and 7 hits three times (2-1).

For the season, when Tech gets 7 or fewer hits it is just 11-12. With 8 or more hits Tech is 22-5, and with 10+ hits Tech is 18-3.

Even if we officially secure a 3rd or 4th seed, we will actually be only the 6th or 7th best team in the 8-team field, based on how everyone is playing now, when it matters most.

    Hopelessly mediocre..

Re: LA Tech Opens Series With Florida Atlantic Friday Night

It's the bats for the most part -

Through 6 yesterday two hits were on the board -

Friday night was as a pathetic performance at the plate out of a Bulldog team that I have ever seen

Granted LB doesn't help matters with his lineup ploys and staff mismanagement, but a "decent" hitting team could over come most of that

A lot of our folks are still enamored with Gaspard, I really think he has to shoulder a lot of his blame

I really want us to get hot the next three weeks and take 5 of 6 to close the regular season and then win two or three in Hattiesburg - not as much to get us in the tourney but more of the fact hoping Ole Miss or some one will go stupid for a bit and come and hire a way Burroughs or else we are going to faced with the same issue with him as we were with Holtz - a HC under a long term deal unfavorable to us with no relief in sight
