Ignoring situations? The stats I quoted are 100% situational stats.

And I defended playing Elliott until it was no longer defendable. And then the book got out on Berch and he started batting worse than Elliott was. That has led us to where we are now.

We have an official game in Boca if a monsoon hits.

one more time…it’s baseball not statistics. I gave you a couple of BASEBALL norms but you continue to ignore what is typical and actually happens in a game.

Baseball is nothing but statistics. Statistics are nothing but an objective measure and compilation of situational data.

    Let's look at today's SITUATIONS:

    2nd inning after Corona singled
Myers flies to CF, Lancaster grounds to short (0-1 each with a runner on base)

3rd inning starting with McLeod's single
Elliott singles (1-1 with runners on base, runners at first and second and then second and third after the wild pitch)
Young doubles (1-1 with runners on, in scoring position, and at third with less than 2 out)
Matulia grounded out moving Young to third (0-1 with runners on and in scoring position)
Netterville singles and advanced to second on the throwing error (1-1 with runners on, in scoring position, and at third with less than 2 outs)
McConnell doubles (1-1 with runners on and in scoring position)
Corona fouls out (0-1 with runners on and in scoring position)
McConnell advances to third on a wild pitch
    Myers walks
Lancaster home run (1-2 with runners on, 1-1 in scoring position)

6th inning after Myers leadoff double
Lancaster popped out (1-3 with runners on, 1-2 in scoring position)
McLeod strikeout (0-1 runners on and in scoring position)
Elliott fly out (1-2 with runners on and 0-1 in scoring position)

7th inning after Young walked and stole second
Matulia strikeout (0-2 runners on and in scoring position)
    Netterville walked
McConnell reached on a fielder's choice that loaded the bases (1-2 runners on and in scoring position)
Corona walks to keep the bases loaded
    Myers sac fly
McConnell moved to third on a wild pitch before Lancaster strikeout (1-4 runners on, 1-3 in scoring position)

    8th inning after Young walked
Matulia home run (1-3 runners on)

Young--1-1 runners, 1-1 scoring position, 1-1 third less than 2 out
    Matulia--1-3 runners, 0-2 scoring position
Netterville--1-1 runners, 1-1 scoring position, 1-1 third less than 2 out
    McConnell--1-2 runners, 1-2 scoring position
    Corona--0-1 runners, 0-1 scoring position
    Myers--0-1 runners
    Lancaster--1-4 runners, 1-3 scoring position
    McLeod--0-1 runners, 0-1 scoring position
    Elliott--1-2 runners, 0-1 scoring position
TEAM--6-16 runners, 4-12 scoring position, 2-2 (stats show 3-3) third with less than 2 out

Re: LA Tech Set to Host Final Home Series with WKU

The discussion is about leaving men on base. We did not do that yesterday and won. We did that on Friday and Saturday and won. The chicken little's came out and cried "can't leave so man men on base". Baseball is a game that is played by athletes who are imperfect and being good is defined by hitting the ball 1/3 of the time. That's the only stat that really matters offensively. You can evaluate the crap out of "what ifs", but unless it is a low scoring game, manufacturing runs with small ball tactics is the only thing a coach or player can actually control...assuming they can execute a perfect bunt, stolen base, or hit and run.

Re: LA Tech Set to Host Final Home Series with WKU

LOB is a huge stat, taken as a whole, over the course of the season. Anyone pointing to this WKU series as evidence it isn't a problem for Tech knows NOTHING about baseball. WKU sucks! They won't even be in H'burg for the conference tourney. Tech does have an issue with LOB. And it rears its ugly head when we play good teams, which is all we have left for the 2022 season. Caveat: UAB might sneak in as the 8th seed, and they aren't particularly good, but they will also be on the opposite side of the bracket as us, so we probably won't play them.

All year there have been discussions about our hitting woes, too many strikeouts, not knowing how to protect the plate with two strikes, chasing pitches out of the strike zone, etc. Clearly the individual players lack the ability to deliver hits, CONSISTENTLY, on their own merits. That means if the team wants to be GOOD (not just mediocre) this issue must be addressed, and that points to coaching (and the lack of it). Poor-hitting teams have to manufacture runs, and that is not something LB even tries to do.

But please spare me "we did this and that this weekend." WKU is not the stick we want to measure ourselves against.

Re: LA Tech Set to Host Final Home Series with WKU

When it comes to small ball or manufacturing runs I’d say there are about 2 times a game when those reasonable opportunities present themselves. In those instances Burroughs tries it about 1 in 5 games which is seriously too few. Typically small ball tactics are used when the game is close which also seems to be when Burroughs seizes up in his critical decision making. It also seems like it that when he does it’s so glaringly obvious that he catches no one by surprise.

LOB is a big deal against decent teams. I don’t have time to look, but how many .500+ teams beat us while we had more LOB than our opponent? Matulia getting a HR yesterday was fun. I want to see him hit a ball in a gap with TY on second in the 1st inning.

UAB is the 8 seed since it holds the tiebreaker over Marshall even if UTSA sweeps UAB and Marshall sweeps FAU. And UAB can't move up to #7.

Without going into a deep diving study of all the scenarios based on likelihood’s it looks to me like best case/worst case, Tech could finish anywhere from #1 to #7. And depending on which Tech team shows up in Charlotte it could be anywhere from probably #2 to #7.

    Diamond Niner Report
    @Diamond9erRPT
The 8 teams are all set for the
    @ConferenceUSA
Tourney next week, but the seedings are still up for grabs.

    - UAB is locked in as he 8 seed.
    - USM, LT, & MTSU are still in it for the 1 seed.
    - CLT can finish as high as a 2 seed or as low as a 7 seed.

Win the following games and we'd already locked in at 2, playing for a 1 seed.

4/15 Give up 2 runs in both 7th & 8th to lose 10-9 Baseball vs Marshall on 4/15/2022 - Box Score - LA Tech Athletics (latechsports.com)
4/24 2 run Lead going into 8th Baseball vs Middle Tennessee on 4/24/2022 - Box Score - LA Tech Athletics (latechsports.com)

We really lost because we left too many men on base.

    Now you get it!

Of course you can always win by pitching a shutout, even if it takes you 9+ innings to score.
