As a rule, what do y'all think of the "Infield Fly" rule? Why should that be an automatic out, action frozen, no options? Thoughts?

It is designed to prevent infield popups from being dropped intentionally (fake catch and drop) to create an easy double or triple play with runners at first and second with less than two out. Batter automatically out removes the force play if the ball isn't caught.
Our favorite USM player Dickerson apparently tried faking a catch this year to see if the umpires would call the infield fly.
UTSA takes a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd when a tag was missed at the plate and review confirmed the call.
Now 2-0 on a 2-out single.
Yes, I know the reasoning, but my question is why not allow the infield to make such a play? The baserunners would have to go part way and then be alert. I just have issues, in all sports, with such arbitrary rules.
UTSA has a bunch of good hitters, 8 of their 9 starters bat .300+. They are mostly single hitters, not much power, but they are pesky.
The infield fly rule is NOT arbitrary. It is designed to prevent making a travesty of the game by turning one out into two or three cheaply.
There is no infield fly rule with a runner only on first.
The catcher who missed the tag at the plate ties the game with a home run in the bottom of the 3rd. 2-2 heading to the 4th.
Let's examine this potential "travesty." Runners on 1st and 2nd, no outs. Pop-up hit and 2nd baseman calls for it on the edge of the outfield grass, no Infield Fly rule in effect. The hitter will easily reach 1st. The runners go a little way off their bases not wanting to be doubled off. Now, the 2nd baseman purposely lets it drop... he can go to 2nd base himself/or toss it to the SS covering but now the force is off at 3rd, not necessarily a given. Or! the 2nd baseman can throw to 3rd for that force out and they can try to complete the double-play with a throw to 2nd. If they do! more power to them! Hitting team has a runner at 1st with two outs...too bad, deal with it.
With a proper rule the hitting team can bunt the runners ahead, now 2nd and 3rd with one out. To which the fielding team could walk the bases loaded, HOPING they get a pop-up just to pull a "travesty" defensive play. See how STUPID the rule is!
No, the only "travesty" is the arbitrary rule.
3-2 UTSA on a 2-out double in the 6th.
That chases Waldrep after 108 pitches.
USM immediately ties it and takes the lead 5-3 in the bottom of the 6th.

As a general rule, I don’t like rules that take control away from the guys on the field. I do think the infield fly rule is a good rule though.
UTSA responds in the 7th to tie it 5-5.
Dustin Dickerson gets beaned. Then starts starring down UTSA pitcher. Would love to see him get run out by the ump for his attitude.
UTSA retakes the lead 6-5 on a pair of 2-out doubles in the 8th.
Lots of errors that look like sun issues
USM ties it 6-6 in the 8th. Heading to the 9th.
UTSA choking while USM gets the usual CUSA favorite calls.
