3-1 Charlotte after 1. Final out in the 1st for ODU was just a few feet from making it 4-3.
Still 3-1 Charlotte, but the 49ers loaded the bases with nobody out in the 3rd and failed to score.
Charlotte makes it 4-1 in the 4th.
Trice slam off the scoreboard makes it 5-4 ODU in the 4th.
Garriola adds a 2-run shot higher off the scoreboard. 7-4 Monarchs.

2-run double makes it 9-4 ODU with nobody out in the 5th.
I’m assuming this is ODUs second pitcher?
Still 9-4 ODU after 7.
ODU has used three pitchers--Armstrong for 2 (55 pitches), Gomez for 4 (68 pitches), and Hartline came in for the 7th.
Dean warming up in the pen, but Hartline gets out of the 8th with no damage (27 pitches so far).
Coutney makes it 10-4 ODU with second and third and nobody out in the 8th. Game-ending run on-deck.
2-run double makes it 12-4 with 2 out.
Levari singles and the runner is thrown out at the plate, but defensive interference is ruled on the 3B as he was in the basepath as the runner was rounding third. The runner had to change his path. Looks like the right call to make it 13-4. Game-ending run at first.
ODU 13-4 after 8.
Dean in to pitch the 9th for ODU.

ODU 13-4 final
Not as stupid as the silly "Infield Fly" rule. But yes, offside in soccer is "arbitrary" insomuch as it could be tweaked, changed. The difference is, offside in soccer is a HUGE game-manager, important to the integrity of the game. The "Infield Fly" rule is VERY arbitrary. It doesn't even apply if there is only a runner on first, why? I can think of a scenario where a team can employ the ole decoy to their advantage.
Meanwhile, bye bye Charlotte. Didn't really want to play dem guys again.
Leave hockey out of it since the rule was finally changed to allow skates to be off the ice over the plane of the blue line.
And when the technology is used in football (not called soccer), offside decisions are pretty cut and dried with VAR. Very few things in sports are more beautiful than a perfectly-timed run to receive a perfectly-placed service to score. And at least they can get those decisions correct now instead of denying legal goals.
FAU-USM starts at 6:20 PM.
0-0 after 1.
Better, more consistent enforcement is important, but my issue is with the principle of the rule.
Like the infield fly ball rule it's not intuitive to the other rules of the game but was added to disincentivize a particular behavior. I think the infield fly rule actually makes more sense (and matters so much less often) that it's the better rule.
Golden Eagles living on the edge. Three consecutive walks after 2 out in the 3rd, but Ewing picks one off the top of the wall to save extra bases if not a slam.
Still 0-0 heading to the USM 3rd.
