Better, more consistent enforcement is important, but my issue is with the principle of the rule.

Like the infield fly ball rule it's not intuitive to the other rules of the game but was added to disincentivize a particular behavior. I think the infield fly rule actually makes more sense (and matters so much less often) that it's the better rule.

If you have ever watched indoor soccer that doesn't have an offsides rule, you would know why an offsides rule is necessary in the outdoor game. Allowing snowbirding would make a travesty of the beautiful game.

1 out single by Montenegro and double by Dickerson plus an intentional walk to Ewing loaded the bases. Sargent flied to medium right, and a perfect strike to the plate cut down Montenegro to end the threat.

USM breaks through on a single by Rodrigo Montengero. Throw to the plate was high. Could have been another out at the plate with a more accurate throw.

2-0 USM on a 4-pitch bases loaded walk to Dickerson by the FAU reliever.

Of course it's horrible offense, combined with good pitching/defense too...sometimes. Load the bases, no outs, and don't score a run...yeah baby, that's winning baseball!

Obviously, I disagree. I like the idea of the defense having another tool in the toolchest. Of course, all of you are assuming the defense will pull it off. It is possible they try the ole fake-a-roo, allow the popup to hit and then throw the ball away and get no one out.

You ignore why the infield fly rule was instituted in the first place. And that it has been in place in its current form for over 100 years. It is necessary and was instituted to eliminate issues making a travesty of the game already discussed off-topic in this thread. A more complete historical discussion is linked below.
