LOL! the private schools, kicked to the curb by the public schools, made off like bandits with playoff revenues while the pubic schools made almost nothing! Poetic justice!

There are some good points in that agenda. The assholes at Many HS (and Winnfield too, as I recall) filed the lawsuit that created the stupid separation and yes, Many should be forced into the select classification too because they have exclusive hold on all of Sabine Parish. Karma, baby!

That would also put Ruston in select along with Oak Grove, General Trass, Madison, and Franklin. I’m sure there are others.

All of the public schools in Lafayette Parish, which uses the academy system. Acadiana and Carencro would be Select.

Alexandria Senior High, as well. Students in Rapides Parish can attend any high school in the parish.

Ruston not mentioned. They are certainly "select" when it comes to football.

Go back to the way it was pre-2012. Schools can choose to play up, like Evangel did years ago, and Curtis certainly should play in 5A despite their enrollment, but mostly everyone plays in a class based on enrollment. Worked just fine for decades.

HD: The split was all driven by smaller schools when Evangel and Curtis were down in their classes. The principals at Many and Winfield in particular.

What this really exposes is who should have been select all along.

And there is a lot of talk about state championships won by some schools and the question being raised is if they really are legitimate.

A lot of it centers around Lafayette Parish.

In the early 90s, Carencro created an all-star team using the Minority to Majority transfer program in Lafayette parish when almost everyone else in the state was still using attendance zones. When Carencro's program fell apart, Acadiana picked up the mantle using that same program. In the academy program in Lafayette Parish, Acadiana was able to build a parish wide all-star team for years, winning state championships. Then Carencro won a title in 4A two years ago. It would be as if one or two teams were created using the population bases of Lincoln, Union, and Quachita parishes combined.

The example cited most has been Acadiana's 2019 state championship team. It's been repeated over and over again on sports talk radio in south Louisiana - 13 of their 22 starters came from outside their attendance zone.

Yep! And Curtis has won exactly one Division I state title in the 10 years they have played with "the big schools." It's not so easy when you have to go through the grind of week after week of good opponents.

Don't be silly, Historian. You know the root of that. Of course the small schools complained. I don't blame them. For crying out loud, they don't have large enough enrollments and enough resources to compete with Evangel and Curtis the way the 5A schools do. But it was the large schools that chickened out and FORCED Evangel and Curtis to play in the small school classes in the first place. The whole subject about kicking Evangel and Curtis out of 5A was initially raised by the Head Coach at Southwood High School in Shreveport, and some other 5A coaches who quickly jumped on board. Make no mistake, those big 5A schools (including West Monroe) were NOT happy about losing games and 5A State Championships to Evangel. Their whole argument was petty. The 5A schools have the enrollment and resources to compete with Evangel and Curtis, but preferred to push those schools back down to 1A and 2A, where the small schools would get slaughtered. Evangel and Curtis had already been "playing up" in class levels much higher than their enrollments. If Evangel and Curtis wanted to "play up" in class, they certainly should have been allowed to. It was absurd for the LHSAA to send Evangel from 5A back down to 1A.
