Grant of rights stay with the Big 12 until June 30, 2025. That's why moving more than a year early was always going to be nearly impossible because of the amount Texas would have to pay to get out from under that.

It’s actually more about how much it would cost OU. UT has money running out their ears but OU is very tight right now. They are the ones who can’t afford the payout to get out early.

The issue is definitely money with OU. Texas could afford it, but it would make things at least a bit uncomfortable.

Texas may not want to admit it, but for them it is about being able to compete week-to-week against SEC competition on the football field. Can't say that with home losses to teams like Kansas. They need two if not all three years left just to get close to SEC level.
