as he's walking off the field after striking out three batters on nine pitches, he never breaks his super serious face. astros announcer todd kalas quips "phil maton is thrilled".

We were there (rooting for the Rangers).

2 immaculate innings in one game. It does make for a fast game (which made up for the unending top of the first).

You witnessed quite a bit of history there! There had never been multiple immaculate innings thrown in the same calendar day in MLB history, much less by the same team, in the same game, or against the same 3 batters!

Also, there are nearly 3 times as many no-hitters in MLB history as immaculate innings!

We only actually saw Maton's (although to be honest it didn't register at the time). We had gone down for cotton candy, etc when the second started and we were a little surprised that we missed a whole inning when we came back, but now we know why it was so short.

he did get a little help from the ump on one of those, but those things go both ways. the other crazy thing (besides two in one game with the same batters) is that all nine of maton's pitches were fastballs.

speaking of maton (which we weren't), he's off to an impressive start to this season. after 23.1 innings pitched, he's got an era of 0.77 and 0.51 whip.
