Bill Clark stepping down from UAB

On the whole, he's probably the most impressive coach in CUSA over our time in the league, right?
Traditionally bad program drops football right as they're showing signs of life, he sticks around through the uncertainty and the fight to bring it back, bounces back way better than they'd been before, and keeps them pretty steadily good?

In the short term, it sounds like back surgery is next.

I bet whatever is next after that depends on how he's feeling. But you'd think he'd be young enough to HC again if he's able (and you'd think schools would want him).

I don't know many, if any, who get back to their old selves after this surgery. Pain relief is a big thing if that happens. Being able to swing a golf club is a great feat.

He had a previous surgery that didn't work.

Perhaps over a longer period of time. But the best coach in CUSA has been Lane Kiffin.

Lots of people think Clark got some help from CUSA. Nobody makes that argument for Kiffin. Kiffin took the league by storm, did what he needed to do to get a SEC job and the fat check that accompanies those jobs, BTW Ole Miss was 10-3 last season, finished #11 in the country.
