Tech lost to EMU 21-19 in the first game of the 1973 season. The only game lost in 72 and 73 for the Bulldogs. In fact if Tech had won that game, the Bulldogs would have had a 38 game win streak starting at the end of the 71 season to the end of the 74 season.
Correct! We are 5-1 against Eastern Michigan. We had ended the 1972 season 12-0 and were small college co-national champions in the polls with 10-0 Delaware in 72. Lots of excitement in 1973 as the NCAA began a new division 1AA with the national champion to be determined on the field in an 8 team playoff. After losing the 73 season opener at EMU(we totally outplayed them but lost) we ran the table 12-0 and beat Western Kentucky 34-0 for the national championship in the Camelia Bowl in California. Interestingly, Grambling lost to Western Kentucky in the semis or we'd have had two Lincoln Parish teams playing for a national title in California. Grambling had beaten Delaware in round one in 73, and in 1971 we defeated EMU in the Pioneer Bowl in Wichita Falls.
