Remember when we were too good for the Sunbelt?
Remember when we were too good for the Sunbelt?
There was a time I was 'too good' to buy a Ford truck, and now I own one and love it.
I don't know many Tech fans that view the 2022 Sun Belt the same way they viewed the Sun Belt of 2012 or 2002. Good leadership and oneness of purpose makes a world of difference.
Congrats to the Sun Belt.
Gameday heading to Boone, NC for the Troy @ Appy State game.
They have arrived in the big time.
Thats kinda the thing about conferences and their teams from year-to-year. They fluctuate.
It's interesting that they became a good conference mostly by adding 1-AA schools. The teams that are making them look good are mostly those who stepped up recently. ULL is probably the most notable exception, and it'll be interesting to see if they can sustain without Napper.
Arkansas State was the "bell cow" for years.
Hope the team in Mobile does not put us at 1-3 before our conference play starts.
With a team like us, anything is possible. One game we will look really good (like yesterday) and the next one we will look like we’ve never seen a football. Growing pains of learning a new system under a new coach.
Well, I think we can safely say, at least 4 current Belt teams would absolutely embarrass us. We will find out in a few weeks if 4 is all
We were head and shoulders above their teams for a long time. We chose the very-strong WAC over them, and it certainly seemed like the best decision at the time. There is no denying they are on a roll right now.
Good old Memorial Gym
Tech madethe right decisions when it came to conference realignment possibilities. The Sun Belt made some great decisions around 2018 and individual schools made good hires while CUSA and schools in the conference did not do much to grow their conference. It allowed the dynamic to switch last year and the tables turned.
Joining the WAC and then CUSA were the right decisions at the time. There were schools (programs) in those leagues of quality and thus "in demand," and that is why better situated conferences raided those conferences, NOT the Sun Belt. Even in this latest round not a single Belt school was selected or even considered by the AAC. Now, the taking of 6 schools wrecked CUSA and made 3 others mad they weren't selected. As result the Belt lucked into being a decent conference...but now it is the "too large" conference ripe with those 3 malcontents and others who think they deserve better.
So, in the next round(s) of conference musical chairs it will be the Belt that gets clobbered. The eastern schools want nothing to do with the western schools, namely the UL-Xs, Arkie State, Texas State, USA, and now USM is locked in with those too. The Belt will implode, or explode, with a mass eastern exodus and those western schools will be left as unwanted orphans. And, chances are very, very strong that CUSA will get hit again, namely the loss of Liberty and WKU, at least.
I predict that in less than 10 years, and maybe much sooner, we will be back in a conference with the UL-Xs, Arkie State, etc...because none of us will have any other choice.
