We've played them before as part of our 10-game NAIA slate

Looks like more of the same

except we get to play 1 at a neutral site. We have almost as many games in the Birmingham area (Samford MTE 3 games & @ UAB) this year as non-conference home games (5) .

I happened to be having lunch with Coach Hester when he got news that a team he thought he had finalized a deal with backed out at the last minute -

When you have the reputation of having a very good program (top 100) it is extremely difficult to get games with ANYONE

    That sucks.

Hopefully we can continue our UNT and maybe UAB series going forward. maybe even Rice, but weŽll still be in Houston adjacent with SHSU.

Rough when you see schools like Crowley's Ridge, Jarvis College, Central Baptist on your home slate. I understand it's tough to get teams to play here, but sheesh these schools blow.

    Re: Bulldogs Finalize 2022-23 Schedule

We need to set up Home and home series with UNT and UT Arlington so we are playing in DFW annually. Of course I would not mind SMU, TCU, etc.

Maybe even Rice - Incarnate Word and-or Houston Christian (FKA Houston Baptist)

if we have 15 OOC games to fill next year, then weŽd could easily add those above.

    Re: Bulldogs Finalize 2022-23 Schedule

    HereŽs what IŽd like -

No more than one non division I game
    1 or 2 money games
    vs. ULL
    at ULM
    at DFW team
    vs. DFW team
    at Houston team
    vs. Houston team
    at SFA
vs. Northwestern State or other Louisiana SLC
1 SWAC game if only 1 money game.
    MTE - 3 games

You can only buy what you can afford to buy -

And you can only get home/home with those who agree to give you a home/home OOC

Right now - those are few and far between

That a lot of respect for a barely top 100 team who hasn't made the dance in 33 years. Of course, the are many early season, out of conference top 100 match-ups played every year. Maybe someday we will have someone capable of scheduling such games for us.

You can believe what you want -

From Tommy Joe Eagles on we have had very poor home scheduling -

Why? No one wants to come here and take a loss

We have difficulty in getting guarantee games - why? When you have the rep of getting a big road win once a year they tend to shy away

The big schools we have gotten to Ruston or Bossier (LSU) was one of two reasons - other HC was a REALLY good friend of our HC or they were paying back a promise to a recruit (TxTech, TCU & Okie St)

Our budget can't buy much of a home schedule -

We are going to play two or three "money" games and a MTE

Want a more palatable schedule - offer a more affordable season ticket package and single ticket page that will make games more affordable to the avg household within an hour drive of Ruston

The ONLY sport that has a respectable season ticket base is baseball and that's only been in the last two years

Quite frankly the old adage always holds true - YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

The regular season doesn't matter, especially the OOC. To dance we have to win the auto-bid. Everything should be geared to having the team as ready as possible to make a run in the conference tourney. Yes, that means doing well in the CUSA regular season to get a high seed, and maybe a bye. But mostly, we need a healthy, read to go team for the tournament.

AND that means not losing your PG in a late-season meaningless game, ala Cobe Williams.

I would imagine a lot of it is big schools understanding their gravy train. The more teams you get to the dance the bigger your share of the pie will be. If they schedule ODU, North Texas, WKU, UAB, or Tech, then there is a chance they lose a game and possibly give up bids in March. A 19 win Illinois will always make the dance over a 25 win non conference champ in a “lesser” conference. If they played that “lesser” opponent, that Illinois team might get beat and left out.

I think this plays a great deal in their decision making...
