    Cumbie and Shreveport Recruiting

A few weeks ago, the Captain Shreve HC was on the Tim Fletcher show. Tim asked if he was hearing from local college coaches about his players. He said, in effect, that he hadn't heard from Tech and that, if history was any indication, he wouldn't. He was clearly a little chapped about it.

This Tuesday Cumbie was on Fletcher's show and he brought up that he was reaching out to local coaches and that he specifically reached out to Captain Shreve's HC. Today, the Shreve coach was on the show again and he made a point to compliment Cumbie and what he's trying to build at Tech.

Anyway, just a little good news on how Cumbie and his staff are different than Holtz's crew.

I’d imagine keeping good relationships with high school coaches can be tricky as the recruiting process can be cut throat. Hopefully Cumbie can maintain good relationships with local coaches and that will pay dividends here and there as local kids stay home. As the conference landscape shifts, we need to recruit Shreveport well and take advantage of those kids that want to stay close to home.

    It's ridiculously "tricky"...

Recruits use are allowed to use words that aren't words like "decommit". Imagine what the coaching circles and media would say if a local coach decided to "decommit" to a player. It's very rare that you hear a coach has "pulled an offer" and usually is a nice way to say "bad grades".

Local example: No school's players have crapped on us as bad as some of those from West Monroe and/or Neville over the years. At the same time, Tech has been loyal to many WM and Neville players over the years.

In this new world of college football, recruiting is a crap shoot. Only a hand full of players can be trusted to do what they think they want to do on a given day.

Tech has a mountain of work to do in every facet of what it takes to be a good football school and their playing from behind in doing it. Everything is uphill and against momentum. At this point it feels pretty much overwhelming.

I’ve watched the Williams kid from Mangham play twice this year, and he is the real deal. He’s probably too small to play RB in college, but he would make a good slot receiver in this offense. His numbers are video game numbers so far this year.

Word is he is a non AQ, JUCO for him. Saw this in a recruiting chat room. Not sure if it's true. Maybe in a few years if he becomes eligible he thinks about us.

Shreve Coach might want to pay more attention to how he's doing things than how Tech's doing things. The receiver from Benton, Pierce Russell, could play for us.
    Have you considered those Dogs?

Their offense is really good, but they are definitely susceptible to good offensive teams.

I wouldn’t doubt it. That’s too bad because he is a very good player. He’s leading the state in rushing and TDs. Just imagine what they would be if he didn’t play both ways
