    The retired president.

But nothing's changed. That group of schools - ODU, Marshall, and JMU, in particular, look at an eastern based league as a 50-year type decision.

Dan Reneau and his minions were clueless about many things, but athletics were at the top of the heap! He talked the talk, but he never walked the walk.As we say in Texas: Big hat, no cows! He gave all our cows away as he bumbled through his job...he never lead because he was afraid he'd make a mistake and be asked to vacate the 16th floor. Harsh, but true!
I'm an asshole! What's your excuse?

I really hate this move, and it's hard to understand why Tech would support it.
Hopefully somehow it gets us more money in our next media deal, because it looks pretty likely.

I'm still holding out hope that the GA board of regents votes it down, but I doubt they'd have put it on the agenda if they didn't think it could pass.

Kennesaw State did take Jacksonville State to overtime last weekend before losing.

BTW Jacksonville State is averaging double our actual attendance at their games with RichRod as coach. He probably gets a P5 job this off season so we won't have to face him.

Brown notes that Tarleton has not been shy about expressing interest in a move to FBS, but C-USA is not as interested in the Texans right now.

Brown noted that SFA does not prefer to transition to FBS at this time due to costs and infrastructure requirements. I can confirm that SFA does not currently desire to transition to FBS.

I've got a better idea. Just come to me first, and I'll personally schedule an OOC opponent better than Kennesaw St . Geezz......
You missed the point completely. Easier has nothing to do with the actual scheduling process. The conference office has to do its job whether there are 8 members or 20.

With 10 members playing an 18-game basketball schedule, you have travel partners. Teams make 4 2-game road trips with shorter travel between games on a trip and just one single game road trip to the travel partner. Having just 5 conference road trips would reduce travel expenses. And assuming a basic Thursday-Saturday schedule, athletes would miss 12-15 class days for road conference games.

With 9 members playing a 16-game conference schedule, teams have to schedule two extra non-conference games. Scheduling basketball non-conference has been hard enough with 18 conference games. Travel could not be done using travel partners, and that would likely mean game weeks would vary between Wednesday-Saturday, Thursday-Saturday, Saturday-Monday, or Thursday-Monday. Teams would have to make 5 or 6 conference road trips under this plan, so there would be little if any savings to play two fewer conference games and might even increase costs for some schools. Class days missed would also be similar to play one fewer conference road game. And if at least one of those extra non-conference games is a road game, that adds to travel expense and missed class days.

They are above Kennesaw only if they are interested in moving to FBS. Which they apparently are not.

So, according to you, CUSA should just add Kennesaw St for "convenience" scheduling purposes? Never mind whether they actually deserve an invite or not. SCHEDULING IS JUST TOO HARD, according to you?

No, it looks like I had the point nailed perfectly. It's all about making the scheduling easier. Why you would open your post with the stupid statement "you missed the point completely", is truly astounding.

Missouri State wants to move to the FBS and have been improving infrastructure to do so. They just aren't interested in CUSA, they have set their sites higher (the Sunbelt).

You could still schedule around travel partners that make sense (you can send two teams to NMSU/UTEP who alternate Thu-Sat). You don't have anyone to use for FIU anyway that really helps things. So it isn't a strict travel partners top to bottom schedule, but you use them where it makes sense. Traveling to a 9th away game is going to cost more than traveling to 8 away games no matter what (depending on how you handle the OOC games that you use to replace those 2 games).

If you play @ UTA/UALR/UNT/SFA instead of @ KSU in a given year, you're better off. The home game (so long as it's Div I and not another Jarvis Christian or whatever) is a wash. KSU isn't drawing any interest, helping NET, or bringing fans anyway. I guess the trick for us is finding anyone to play at home that isn't forced to Ruston by sharing a conference. But as HD says, we're paying people to figure that out.

You can't do the UTEP-NMSU double pairing on the same days every week with 9 teams because it would cause an imbalance in other teams having a playing date open. That's where the other playing date combinations, having to play NMSU and UTEP on different road trips, or conference games having to be scheduled way before Christmas would come in. None of those options are good.

Tech can't get Div I games other than SBC, SLC, and SWAC in Ruston now. Having to schedule another one won't make that easier.

    Re: 10th Member: Kennesaw State

I'm not saying basketball scheduling isn't easier with 10 than 9. I'm saying that I don't care and that fact alone doesn't out weigh the negatives of having 10. And that total travel is going to be more for 9 road games (8 we have either way at this point plus KSU) than 8 road games (locked in) plus any of a couple dozen options other than KSU. And that it almost doesn't matter who you get because we're not getting much NET boost from KSU unless things change eventually with their new FBS commitment/resources (actually finding a better road game is probably the easy part, it's the home game that's always tough for us).

Anyway, still hate the move. Still hope it fails somehow. Wish we'd stick with 9.
