What are our biggest recruiting needs for this off-season

Since there’s not much else to talk about this year, what do you think our biggest needs are when it comes to positions?

Re: What are our biggest recruiting needs for this off-season

Honestly, I think we have seen the need for a viable QB2 option. If he isn’t on the roster now, we are in trouble if Lyddy goes down next year.

    Linebacker and DB for sure.

    How old are our receivers?

Our offensive line is offensively fat and slow. If they were quicker firing at the snap, no telling how much better the run game would be. JMHO. Not sure if they need to be replaced or run into shape.

Re: What are our biggest recruiting needs for this off-season

I said elsewhere that with Tech’s obvious limitations in recruiting machismo compared to the other regional schools big and small we compete with we’re pretty much bringing up the rear of good football programs. What that means is we’re rarely going to get any really good athletes based on their ratings. Sure we’ll get a few who develop beyond what the so called brains predict of their potential. There’s always the possibility of there being a gem or two in a dump truck load of rocks. To the largest degree the biggest thing for Tech is always going to be coaching up the mediocre talent we get. Unfortunately this is something Tech has been failing at for roughly the last 6 years. We have far too few players who get noticeably better over their playing years here. Hopefully this is something Cumbie can make a major improvement in starting before this season is over. We’re clearly behind and steadily losing ground.

Will never catch up with an Admin that is happy with half ass.

We have to be competitive with COA and asst. comp.

Re: What are our biggest recruiting needs for this off-season

I get that and you’re right. It’s a good thing Guice doesn’t have anything to do with the actual goings on on the field because if he did we’d surely get our pants beat off every game. Based on our conference backsliding and Tech getting progressively worse these recent years tells you flat out that Guice has no concept of being a competitor. He’s an academic cruise control guy. The difference is that I have to believe that Cumbie wants to win and succeed and I believe he can if he’ll just stick to it, push things forward and coach this program up. Where we’re weakest is repeating stupid mental mistakes and lapses in being disciplined.

Re: What are our biggest recruiting needs for this off-season

I think our biggest need is on defense, most notably at LB and safety. We obviously need a punter in the worst way. We need to go out and recruit some nasty OL, and I’d prefer them to be 285 and can move than 330 with cement feet. That’s our biggest needs IMO, but as others have said, we need help almost everywhere.

Re: What are our biggest recruiting needs for this off-season

Looking at the recruiting summaries that Sportdawg shared (thanks for that ) there are some guys with decent enough size to be good players. Obviously though the 5 & 4 star recruits are long gone to the Alabamas and LSUs and the like. What that means is that our 3s and below better have workmanlike characters, are smart enough to learn a playbook and are highly coachable. After that in order for Tech to be successful our coaches have to be good coaches and care enough to develop our players and make them into 4s and 5s. We’re not beating anybody with ranks of stagnant 3s.

Re: What are our biggest recruiting needs for this off-season

Speed and quickness, first and last. Speed can overcome a lot of deficiencies. The main difference between each level of the game is speed.
Example, I'd put a fast safety type player at linebacker before someone that can't run sideline to sideline like Tech currently has.
Example, App State beat Michigan that time through sheer speed.
