    New media deal

    @Ourand_SBJ
    CBS, ESPN sign media rights deals with CUSA.https://sportsbusinessjournal.com/SB-Blogs/Breaking-News/2022/11/Conference-USA-media-deal-CBS-Sports-ESPN.aspx…

    2mPer SBJ, Conference USA schools can expect $750K each per year w this new deal -- putting them behind MAC + Sun Belt in the Group of 5.It's not a blockbuster deal money-wise, but it does appear to solidify the conference's existence, at least.

    Re: New media deal

    CUSA, which will add five new members for the 2023-24 academic year, will play most of its October league games on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, with a handful of games also planned for Thursday and Friday nights.

    ESPN and CBS Sport Net will share the inventory of midweek football games for linear TV.

    This was the only alternative if you didn't want more Stadium and ESPN+

    We'll still have most of our games (except October) on ESPN+. Doesn't say how many ESPN games, but CBS will have 18 (up 4 from current deal).

    We will have to think of creative ways to fill the stands for those week night games.

    CBSSN is airing 18 games controlled by C-USA this year. That includes 11 conference regular season games, the C-USA championship game, plus 6 OOC games at C-USA schools.

    7 (2 Thursday, 5 Friday) of the 18 CBSSN C-USA games are not on a Saturday this year.

    And it’s always been our rule that we don’t skip church for hunting or sports. So Wednesday is out anyway.

    All this tells you is that CUSA is a crap sell for weekends because the level of competition is so bad that they had to go somewhere else. It was either mid week evenings or going to mid day with the soap opera shows.

    Midweek gamessuck except for TV. MACtion has helped make some their teams and games more known, and the same can happen for a CUSA that needs to introduce new teams to FBS audiences. It's not great, but it could have some benefits.
