I did a little "recruiting" home work over the last hour or so.

So, back in June, Louisiana Tech got a hard commitment from a little known backup HS QB named Evan Bullock, (6'4, 210) from Anna High School in Collin County, Texas. Apparently Bullock was a backup QB at 6A powerhouse Allen High School, and transferred 25 miles up the road (Hwy 75) last spring to the much smaller Anna High School, which competes at the Class 4A level. His parents getting a divorce was the apparent impetus for this transfer.

When reading all this, I was really concerned that LA Tech had rolled the dice in a major way on this one. And then I saw THIS:

Well I'm happy to report that Bullock has led his 2022 team (Anna HS) to a 12-0 record and defeated traditional 4A powerhouse Stephenville (who won 4 state titles under Art Briles) 33-32 last weekend to claim the Texas Regional Championship for AHS. The team now moves to their 3rd round playoff game.

As for Bullock, he has completed 265 of 394 passes (67.3%) for 3,803 yds, 53 TD's and only 5 INT's, in 12 games.

Yes, you read that correctly: 53 TD Passes.

He's not an FBS QB...yet. And he won't become one until he starts playing like he is 6-2 or 6-3 in spite of his size. It was to be expected that he would play smaller than his size this year because of the huge jump in competition he faced.

It could be that his future has changed and now it won’t include Tech. Our staying bad won’t impress any upper caliber players to want to come here. I may wrong but it wouldn’t surprise me so see people bailing on us. It’s the Holtz sinking ship phenomenon and Cumbie hasn’t helped any.

Sonny Cumbie may have enough QB gravitas to hold this guy --or any real good QB for that matter-- if he needs to.

BTW, Bullock might turn out to be a 4-star worthy recruit. He's got the size (6'4, 210) and could end up with over 4,000 yds passing and 60 TD's. That's rarified air in a lot of quarters.

Cumbie said the kick was low by Barnes. He also said that there was some leakage in blocking. If the kick trajectory was where it should have been the kick probably doesn't get blocked even with the "leakage".

Bad coaching on failing the get the blocking cleaned up and on sending the wrong kicker out for a distance kick.

Wow 53 TD passes, same as Landry Lyddy had as a senior (maybe who really knows) . For some reason Bullock is totally flying under the radar. He has picked Tech, but we are the only offer he has. Not even an FCS offer. 247 has him ranked as the 140th best QB in this class, with a composite ranking at 108. Lyddy was 113th and 100th by comparison.

The other QB commit in our class is a guy name Vic Sutton. 247 has him as the 67th best QB in the class, with a composite ranking of 67th. Sutton as beaucoup offers: Arkansas (Kendal Briles, recruiter), Maryland, and Virginia Tech from the Power

Will be fun to see how it all plays out. Hard to know at this point. Hopefully one of the young men who are recruited and come here are actually worthy to be called a quality FBS QB.

As of now he is as big as a lock as can exist. It appears as we are his only offer. Everyone else must think he is still a back-up at Allen. Very unusual situation.

That's why I brought this subject up; Bullock is flying under the recruiting radar, because he spent the 1st three years of his HS career as a backup at Allen, HS. He didn't have any stats coming into this season because he never played. BUT, he appears to be blossoming into a very good HS QB, and potentially a very good pickup for us. Any QB that passes for over 4,000 yds and 60 TD's in Texas HS football probably has a lot of potential to play good football at LA Tech. We might get lucky.

Well, Anna, TX QB and Louisiana Tech Commit Evan Bullock did it again. He threw for 211 yards and 3 TD's while leading his team to a victory over long time Texas football powerhouse program Celina in a 3rd round playoff game in Class 4A. Bullock's team is now 13-0, and moves on to the state semifinals to play another long time traditional powerhouse, China Spring.

Evan Bullock has now thrown for 4,014 yds and 56 TD's in his debut season with Anna (13-0).
