My takeaway is that Sonny showed the blueprint for having a really good team at Tech: recruit mostly transfers and JUCOs. He handed over a depleted team to Holtz because of this though.
Holtz tried to “build a program” with mostly high school recruits but was only able to put together mediocre to marginally good teams.
Cumbie looks like he’s going back to Transfers and JUCOs like Sonny did.
Ultimately I’d say Holtz was a lazy coach, a lazy leader and was so consumed with not wanting to risk any other coach maybe doing something to lose a game that he wouldn’t let them do their own coaching. He micromanaged the decline of Tech year after year. Yes, there were a few bright spots, but in his own ineptitude he even managed to scuttle his own ship. The accumulative effect of all that was a degrading program that the Tech powers at be were too absentminded of and too blind to see. Tech is essentially a mismanaged crappy sports university that only has the occasional blip of being credible. That’s Tech baseball and softball for right now, but sadly it’s probably only temporary. Someone will inevitably do something stupid to screw it up.
Tech is run by empty suits.

Louisiana Tech QB Landry Lyddy has entered the transfer portal.

Not surprised at all. Cumbie wants to bring in his own guys, this was inevitable. Wonder where he will end up.
More importantly, with only Downing, Turner, and Bullock (not joining until June), the QB room is small and, quite frankly, unimpressive. Oh boy.

In hind sight Lyddy wasn’t all that impressive for what Cumbie gave him to work with. That being the play calling and the situation the team was in… mostly always being behind and having to play uphill. Still, I hate to see this team steadily seeming to always take steps backward when what we need most is to leapfrog ahead.
If history repeats itself Lyddy will probably end up at some rival schools over the next few years and beat Tech.
Yet another example of why you don’t listen to anyone who says they are dead set Tech for life.
If he goes the Father Abraham route, that'd mean going 2-1 against him at a rival conference school, then 0-2 at SEC schools, right?
I could live with that, probably (depending on the school, and what we're getting at QB instead).

Interesting. Great timing on his part after signing day with lots of QB’s still in the portal with no future in sight. I don’t really see him getting another FBS shot. Maybe FCS.
Funny how some here were upset that he didn’t redshirt. I think another said he would transfer to LSU anyway because they will need a QB next year. Redshirt, LSU. LOL.
Like all who leave Tech in this manner, best of luck to you. Best you not be here if your heart is not into it.
