Tech may be a repeat of Colorado next year with a team made up of essentially all portal players. The thing is though that these will be the portal players where their coaches told them to leave. Can we please initiate a coaches portal where we can trade ours for someone else… anyone else.

We all knew there’d be players leaving, but there’s an awful lot that’s said in this one. For a guy who you’d think would be a lock as Tech’s next year’s favored starter to leave and take his chances learning a new offense and being the next team’s #1 QB essentially says he’s putting his playing days at risk to not play for Cumbie again, Ouch! It’s one thing for an under classman to leave in hopes of playing more somewhere else or to play for a hopefully better team, but to go all in with your last hand is an enormous slap in the face to Cumbie’s program. Neither was I. He never seemed at ease the entire time he played. His O-line sucked, but I saw some comment by a Boise fan on this board implying the same thing.

What have y’all seen that makes you think Cumbie can develop a new QB for next season. He didn’t do much with a QB who’d at least had some prior success. Starting from scratch again probably isn’t going to work out any differently next year. Having said that I suppose there is a chance that one or more of the other QBs on the current team could come through and be good, but to do that they’d have to not transfer out… fingers crossed someone is a diamond in the rough and can overachieve in spite of Cumbie’s mismanagement.
FiFY. Looks like we recruit the measurable rather than the results. Plenty of QB’s on the roster that look good, a couple of them didn’t even start on their high school teams. I’d recommend finding an under recruited winner. Meaning a kid that led their team to some success but might be 6’ instead of 6’5”. Tech needs a leader at Qb and a coach that can find and recruit them.
He has been good with QBs at TCU.
Maybe so but that’s water under the bridge now and probably QBs that went to TCU as a result of someone else’s recruiting and then they were disciplined at TCU by someone else’s authority and demeanor and not Cumbie’s.
I understand the frustration. But college football is more complicated than "these coaches are all bad" and "these coaches are all good." Two years feels like a long time, and we don't ever really get great sample sizes (for one thing, the landscape is always changing).
But "had two bad years with transfers and underclassmen" isn't the same as "has never and will never recruit or develop a QB despite evidence to the contrary."
I don't expect anyone to be as optimistic as me that things can improve. But you don't have to make things worse for yourself by assuming the absolute worst.

Same. I mean, I'd have preferred he stay if I had known he would have another year. But I didn't think it'd be him next season anyway.
