An O-Linemen from Tech getting picked up in the portal.....now there's something you don't see every day.
My understanding (which is limited) is that an O-lineman with experience and a pulse stands to make P5 money in the portal. Even if only as a backup. I don't think anyone expects to find superstars at that position out there (they're mostly locked up where they are) but former G5 starters stand to make some money.
They won this year and will win the next decade…
Limit your student body, bring in bigger athletes with housing and a job = easy division and easy rings.
As DFW remarked when you get a high percentage of football players to number of total students something is fishy. Really fishy.
Unless I have totally missed something in the 50+ years my family has been friends with multiple families who live in Oak Grove, anybody who thinks there is something untoward going on with the Oak Grove football program knows very little about the area and has probably never been there. They have had great football teams for years. The only major industry is "agriculture". My guess is Walmart is the largest employer in the Oak Grove school district or perhaps it is the school system itself or the hospital. There are approximately 450 students in grades 6 through 12 so in order to have a football team, a high percentage of the male students are going to have to be on the team. A lot of the people I know who have lived in Oak Grove for decades post pictures of their relatives on the football team on Facebook. They have developed a culture of winning. And there isn't much to do in Oak Grove so high school football is a really big deal. If someone with "inside" information can prove me wrong, I'd be glad to see what evidence you have, but I'd be shocked to learn Oak Grove is using anything other than homegrown talent on their football team. When Joshua Mote signed with Tech back in 2017, he was the first D1 signee from Oak Grove since 2001. Sometimes a team is better than the sum of its parts. Oak Grove Tigers for the win!!!!
Oak Grove's QB Jackson Bradley committed to Tech last month so I guess we'll see what he has to offer once he gets to Tech. https://247sports.com/player/jackson-bradley-46136828/
I found a Facebook post about Jackson's dad Josh from December 2022: "Oak Grove Quarterback Jackson Bradley and his dad, Assistant Coach Josh Bradley. Josh has now won 7 state championships at Oak Grove. (2 as a player in football, 2 as a player in baseball, and now 3 as an assistant coach in football.)" Assuming Josh is still an assistant coach at OG, make that 4 championships as an assistant coach in football.
Also from December 2022, Head Coach "Ryan Gregory is a Oak Grove Tiger through and through, he played for the Tigers back in the late 90′s and early 2000′s. He won two state championships (1999 & 2001), and three as a head coach, (2019, 2020 & 2022)."
Hank to Wake Forest
Is there a link for the portal for us uninformed folks so we can go look at what's going on?
Less than 10K people live in West Carroll. Probably under 1000 guys 15 to 18 at most. Oak Grove is classified as 1A so around 300 or so guys AND girls. The big difference is that you live to play football at Oak Grove...if you choose to play football in W.C.
Not sure how old your FIL is, but Oak Grove wasn't worth a crap until Darymple came along and built the program.
