The one-time Boise State starting quarterback, Bachmeier has thrown for 8,663 yards and 51 touchdowns in his career. He visited Vanderbilt earlier this week with his top wide receiver with the Bulldogs, Cyrus Allen.

The sentence above is copied from a story in that first link (on3.com). So, Bachmier and Cyrus Allen were shopping themselves to Vanderbilt.
If we have so much talent that the Power 5 schools want to sign them, why can't Sonny Cumbie make them successful?

Athletically, isn’t Vandy at best a lateral move? Their football might be competitive in CUSA

Not sure how old your FIL is, but Oak Grove wasn't worth a crap until Darymple came along and built the program.
So, kids can attend Oak Grove instead of the school in their attendance zone? How many athletes does it take to make a difference on a high school football team, 2-3?

In Lincoln Parish, a kid in Choudrant, Dubach, or Simsboro can go to Ruston if they want to play football or volleyball because the other schools don’t offer it.

I remember Jason Martin was extremely good at fooling the defense when he faked the handoff and so nonchalantly held the football behind his hip/backside. He was so relaxed and hid the ball then rocketed the ball to his receiver. Fooled them so many times. Lost art.

As you know, West Carroll is EXTREMELY rural. O.G. has been the only football playing school in the parish for over 50 years. I'm not positive, but I don't think the attendance rule was put in place until Darymple came along. I'm sure they've picked up a kid or two from Epps, Fisk Union, or Kilborne. Every other school in the parish is class C and many/most are closed/closing. Any idea which ones have come from outside the zone that existed back in the 80s?

Contrast this with Claiborne parish (Homer and Haynesville). Imagine if they shut down Haynesville and combined. Lincoln is not really a good comparison.

I don't think most folks get Oak Grove and Haynesville football culture that is instilled in the young kids as soon as they are out of the womb - that's all a boy wants to do is play under the lights on Friday and wear the black & gold or black & white - it's just different...

It's extremely hard to get a waiver in Claiborne Parish - I was able to get one for Kyle in the 5th grade on two accounts - 1) Homer was a failing school both junior high & senior high school and 2) they did not offer baseball - but he was a 50lb runt and barely 4 ft tall and NO ONE including myself ever thought he would be starting qb for 2+ years

Even if you are in the Summerfield District and want to play football in Homer or Haynesville - it's work to get the waiver

If Homer and Haynesville combined - we would have about 50 more kids in 9-12 than Oak Grove - next year Homer will be one of the smallest schools in AA and we will be at the low end of A

People say that Haynesville has fell of the map the last 10 years -

    2014 - State Champs
    2015 - Runner Up
    2016 - Runner Up
    2017 - Quarterfinalist
2018 - Semifinalist (17 seniors should of won the ship)
    2019 - Regionals (2nd round)
    2020 - Quarterfinalist
    2021 - Semifinalist
    2022 - Semifinalist
    2023 - Runner Up

And we have 12 starters coming back off last year's team for 2024 and the junior high program is stacked
    ''Don't be a bad dagh..."

I think it was a freak year for OG. They will always be good, but they were just scary good this year.

I forgot the mention earlier. LP (General Trass) is the only football playing school in East Carrol...pretty sure they are the only school period. They have had a couple of decent years, but they have been bad for over 50 years. Madison and Tensas both have just one football playing school. Neither high school is worth a crap in football. There's a common these here...

One thing I do know about Haynesville in recent years is they're well-fed by DeeWayne (from what I can tell from the pix).

Dubach no longer has a high school. Been closed probably close to a decade. I'm not certain if Dubach kids go through 8th grade or only 6th. Therefore, all Dubach kids head to Ruston.

That is true, I’m not in that area and forgot.

There are 17 All-CUSA players currently in the portal. We see it every year. Top Group of 5 players are eager to move up.

But how did G5-to-P5 transfers pay off in 2023? Well, 72% played fewer snaps and 37% have started zero games. Are they better off?
